Chris Kim, CSUF Reporter:
Cal State Fullerton has been recognized for having one of the best college baseball programs in the nation. It should come as no surprise that the Titans made it back to Omaha for their fifteenth appearance in the 2007 College World Series. The young team struggled throughout the season, but pulled it together to make it to Omaha despite being overwhelming long shots. Titan alumni, students, family, and friends came all the way to Omaha to cheer on the Titans in the tournament. Some fans even came from out-of-state simply because they love the Titans.
Harvey Oaxaca, CSUF fan:
Unfortunately, we were not lucky enough to go to Cal State Fullerton, but about three years ago, Cal State came into our lives by John Curtis moving in with us and living with us in the summertime. We instantly fell in love with everything that has to do with Cal State Fullerton: the excitement, the quality, the professionalism, and the high winning attitude. My wife and I are just so fortunate to be a part of the Cal State Fullerton Titans. Go Titans!
Chris Kim, CSUF Reporter:
The Titan House served as a resting area and central hub for the Titan faithful who trekked to Omaha. The House was organized and set up by the alumni committee at Cal State Fullerton, and has attracted much attention around the area.
Carlos Leija, Executive Director of Alumni Relations:
I witnessed something I’ve never seen before: Cal State Fullerton in the national spotlight. I realized that if we ever came back, we had to really capitalize on that. In 2003, we really did. We started the first Titan House here in Omaha, across the street from Rosenblatt Stadium. I’ve always known that there have been great Titan fans. We have the best fans in the world, and I really wanted to create something where our fans could come out here, get together, and do something like what you’re seeing here today. This has been done four times in Omaha, across the street from Rosenblatt. What you see here today is a testament of true fan loyalty and Titan pride. This is the epitome of Titan pride. We made it happen, and we’re just creating and building upon the legacy that is Titan baseball here in Omaha. I’m just proud to be a small part of this, and to give the fans, the parents, and everybody who loves Titan baseball an opportunity to come out and be a part of this, here at Rosenblatt stadium.
Chris Kim, CSUF Reporter:
The Titans would end up losing 5-4 in an elimination game against the UC Irvine Anteaters. The game lasted thirteen innings, and was the longest running game in College World Series history at five hours and forty minutes. Despite a heartbreaking loss, this young team plans for a return trip to Omaha next year.
Khris Davis, Outfielder for CSUF:
Not only to Omaha next year, but to win it. That’s where we will be.
Fred Gill, Father of Assistant Coach, Jason Gill:
This team is going to continue and the game is going to continue. This is baseball. This is middle states, California, all over the world baseball. This is the real thing.
Chris Kim, CSUF Reporter:
The Titans had an incredible run making it to Omaha this year. Though the Titans were eliminated in the College World Series, they made history, representing the strength, determination, and tenacity of true Titans.
Chris Kim, CSUF Reporter:
Both Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine came into the College World Series as long shots. Despite Cal State Fullerton’s early elimination from the tournament, they have accomplished a worthy feat by being able to come this far in the tournament. Reporting live from Rosenblatt stadium in Omaha for Cal State Fullerton, this is Chris Kim.
