Temporary faculty (Lecturers) are subject to review per either UPS 210.050 or
UPS 210.060. Each department maintains procedures and criteria for temporary faculty reviews. Lecturers should review both their Department Personnel Standards and the relevant UPS documents prior to preparing their files for review.

Lecturers - Please read below if you are looking for more information about lecturer evaluations.

Now Updated for Spring 2014.

The following table is intended as a guide to the period of review, i.e., the period of time which should be covered in the portfolio the lecturer submits for evaluation.  Part-Time Lecturers, in particular, should consult with their department chairs, because the specifics for the evaluation of part-time lecturers is still set by the department. Therefore, the requirements at a particular department may differ slightly from the information in the chart below.

For  assistance in determining whether a lecturer's evaluation file requires an evaluation at just two levels (the DPC and the Chair) or all three levels (the DPC, the Chair, and the College Dean) please read below.

If you are in one of the following categories, you are expected to submit a file for evaluation that will be reviewed by the DPC, Chair, and Dean (see Time Table 1 below).

  • Full-Time Faculty within the first five years of lecturer employment at CSUF^
  • Full-Time and Part-Time Faculty in the sixth year of lecturer employment at CSUF^
  • Full-Time and Part-Time Faculty in the 3rd year of a 3-year contract^
  • Full-Time and Part-Time Faculty applying for a Range Elevation^^

If you fit one of the following descriptions, you are expected to submit a file for evaluation that will be reviewed by just two levels: the DPC and Chair (see Time Table 2 below).

  • Part-Time Faculty within the first five years of employment at CSUF.*

 

^ Refer to the guide to Period of Review chart or consult Department Chair to make sure you understand the actual  the period under review that will be covered by your portfolio.

^^ Those applying for a range elevation are expected to submit portfolio materials that emphasize the past five years.

If you are a Full-Time or Part-Time Faculty member in the 1st or 2nd year of a 3-year contract, you will normally not be required to submit a portfolio for evaluation.  Enjoy the respite!

Evaluations of FT Temporary Faculty, Evaluation of FT and PT Temporary Faculty for Eligibility for first 3-year Appointment (i.e., sixth year evaluation), Evaluation of FT and PT Temporary Faculty for subsequent 3-year Appointments, and Evaluations of FT and PT Temporary Faculty eligible to apply for Range Elevation.

Dean (or equivalent) forwards recommendation form, evaluations, written responses, & SOQs to Faculty Affairs as appropriate.

June 16th

Provost’s decision on range elevation to be given to the faculty member 

September 1st

Due date to Faculty Affairs for appealing the denial of a range elevation.

 

* Allow a minimum of 10 days after the DPC evaluation has been given to the faculty member before forwarding portfolio to Chair or Director.

 

** Allow a minimum of 10 days after the Chair evaluation has been given to the faculty member before forwarding portfolio to Dean, AVP for Student Affairs, or University Librarian.

  * Allow a minimum of 10 days after the DPC evaluation has been given to the faculty member before forwarding portfolio to Chair or Director.

** Allow a minimum of 10 days after the Chair evaluation has been given to the faculty member.
