Desktop Application covers a variety of computer software including Microsoft Office, Web Development, and Accessibility (ATI).

How Desktop Application Training Works

Class Availability Legend:

  • Classroom: The class takes place in-person at a particular date/time in a classroom setting.
  • Live Online Classroom: Users connect to a website from their computer to attend the training at a particular time/date; the class is conducted live by an instructor and the users can hear the instructor using their computer speakers or headphones connected to their computer.

IT: ATI Intro to Accessible Technology Initiative Concepts (ATI-001)

Course Pre-requisites: None

Course Availablity: Live online classroom

Upon completion of this course, the user will know:

  • What is accessibility
  • The issues that prevent documents and information from being accessible
  • About different adaptive technologies and tools those with access impairments use to access information

Additional Information:

  • This course is intended as a broad overview.

IT: Creating Accessible PDF Documents (CMP6019)

Course Pre-requisites: None

  • How to create accessible PDF documents

IT: Creating Accessible Word and PDF Documents (CMP6034)

Course Pre-requisites:

  • IT: Creating Accessible Word and PDF Documents (CMP6034) or equivalent knowledge

Upon completion of this course, the user will know:

  • How to create accessible forms in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat 9.

Course Pre-requisites:

  • Solid basic computer skills such as opening and saving documents, formatting text in Microsoft Word and using tools like cut copy and paste.

  • Create accessible text, images, tables and navigation on a webpage.

Additional Information:

  • Course will assume no prior experience creating or updating web pages.
  • A basic understanding of using Adobe DreamWeaver to update information on a webpage is helpful but not required.
  • Open to Windows and Macintosh users.

IT: ATI - Writing Accessible HTML and CSS (ATI-006)

Course Pre-requisites:

  • A basic understanding of how webpages are created and some experience updating webpages with Adobe DreamWeaver or Microsoft Frontpage.

Course Availablity: Classroom

Upon completion of this course, the user will know:

  • How to write accessible HTML and CSS code.

Additional Information:

  • This course will use a text editor and Adobe DreamWeaver.
  • Open to Windows and Macintosh users.
  • Homework and Open Labs will be scheduled for additional hands on practice.

IT: ATI - Creating and Publishing Accessible Presentations with Audio and Video (ATI-008)

Course Pre-requisites:

  • A general understanding of accessibility issues and a knowledge of using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.

Course Availablity: Classroom

Upon completion of this course, the user will know:

  • How to use audio and video elements in PowerPoint presentations
  • About tools such as Adobe Captivate that can be used to incorporate audio and video into PowerPoint presentations

IT: Data Reporting and Analysis in Excel 2007 (cmpexceldatareporting)

  • IT: Working With Simple Formulas And Functions In MS Excel (CMP5S11)

  • OR: A good general understanding of using Microsoft Excel 2007, including knowledge of how to enter data, create basic equations, use relative and absolute references and using standard functions such as SUM, AVERAGE, and COUNT.

Upon completion of this course, the user will know:

  • How to create enhanced reports for data in Excel 2007 worksheets

Additional Information

  • This is an eight-part course.

  • Session One – Data Management Tools. Topics will include sorting and filtering data, using the summary and subtotal tools. Grouping and outlining data sets, and creating simple pivot tables. (2 hours)

  • Session Two and Three – Data Management Functions. Topics will include using conditional functions such as IF, SUMIF, COUNTIF, AVERAGEIF, using basic lookup functions such as LOOKUP, VLOOKUP AND HLOOKUP and related functions such as logical operators and finally we will look at some of the database functions such as DGET and DMAX. (2.5 hours each)

  • Session Four: Open Lab. This session will be an open lab for questions and answers about applying the skills you have learned in the preceding sessions. (2 hours)

  • Session Five: Hints and Tips. This session will provide students with some practical hints and tips for using the skills learned in the preceding sessions.

  • Session Six: Using the Excel Data Analysis Tools. This session will discuss how to use different data analysis tools such as Scenarios, Conditional Formatting and What If Tools. (1.5 hours)

  • Session Seven: Using Macros. This session will cover how to use Macros in Excel 2007 to create custom reports. (2 hours)

  • Session Eight: Open Lab. This session will be an open lab for questions and answers about applying the skills you have learned in the preceding sessions. (2 hours)
