Goal 1 Operational Efficiency

Improve the institution’s operational efficiency through information technology

A top priority for CSU Fullerton is to provide faculty, staff and students with access to ubiquitous computing. An IT organization that can introduce efficiencies through automation and centralization of key business processes will enable the University to focus its energies to the mission of teaching and learning. For AY12-13 the Division of IT developed and completed the following initiatives to support improving the University's operational efficiencies through the strategic use of information technology.

Supporting Strategies

  • Mac Laptop Refresh 
    Refresh the full-time faculty and administrators laptops
  • Desktop Refresh  
    Rollout desktop refresh devices to faculty, staff and administrators
  • Web Content Management System 
    Continue to work with campus divisions, departments and colleges to convert campus websites to OmniUpdate’s OU Campus content management system
  • Digital Forms and Workflow 
    Continue to work collaboratively with the campus to determine which campus forms should be converted from paper-based to electronic-based to improve workflow processes

Accomplishments

Laptop Refresh II

Continue to refresh the Full-Time Faculty and Administrators laptops

  • Completed PC laptop refresh for Full-Time Faculty and Admin I and II users
  • 300 new laptops refreshed with new MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs

Tablet (iPad) Rollout

Continue to rollout mobile tablet access devices (iPad) to faculty, staff and administrators

  • Completed iPad rollout to new faculty

Desktop Refresh

Continue to rollout desktop access devices to faculty, staff and administrators

  • Completed Windows 7 upgrade and redeploy GX620/GX745 to campus
  • All Macs assigned to rollout qualified users have been upgraded to OS X Lion and Office 2011

Web Content Management System

Continue to work with campus divisions, departments and colleges to convert campus websites to OmniUpdate’s OU Campus content management system

  • Increased the number of websites using OU Campus by 50%
  • 48 new OU sites were created and 30,000 pages are in production using OU.

Digital Forms and Workflow

Continue to work collaboratively with the campus to determine which campus forms should be converted and workflow processes improved

  • Successfully implemented a pilot travel application with an online workflow
  • 255 forms in Adobe Acrobat have been converted and centralized on the web at http://forms.fullerton.edu.

Academic Technology Center

Continue to provide leadership in the areas of teaching, learning and support

  • Successfully expanded Academic Technology Center and services
  • Added a full time resource specializing in server and Sharepoint administration which increased the ATC’s capability to provide direct support to faculty participating in the ERTP process
