Goal 6 LMS & Student Engagement

Increase effective use of the learning management system and student engagement tools

Student success and engagement is enhanced through the use of information technology. Providing students with 24/7 access to accurate and timely information improves the level of involvement and connectedness students feel with the campus.  For AY12-13 the Division of IT developed and completed the following initiatives to increase the effectiveness of the Learning Management System and student engagement tools.

Supporting Strategies

  • Classroom Upgrade 
    Provide engaging technologies in the classrooms such as interactive projectors, document cameras and easy-to-use lecterns
  • Academic Advising Functionality and Toolsets 
    To facilitate student access to services and achieve higher graduation rates by providing mobile based tools

Accomplishments

Classroom Upgrade

Provide engaging technologies in the classrooms such as interactive projectors, document cameras and easily operable lecterns

  • Upgraded the technology in eleven general use classrooms

Portal 2.0 Upgrade

Move the campus Portal 2.0 from beta to production

  • The campus portal is now easily accessible from any device platform 

Upgrade DARs to u.Achieve and Implement u.Direct

Work collaboratively with campus departments to develop roadmaps and enter them into u.Direct

  • Upgrade to new u.Achieve product replacing DARs and deploying a new self-service portal for access to the TDA and u.Direct
  • Improved interactions between students and advisors working toward successful and timely graduation rates

Academic Advising Functionality and Toolsets 

To facilitate student access to services and increase graduation rates by providing mobile based tools

  • An advisor application was created to enter advising notes. Twelve thousand TDA’s were submitted during the Fall using the new advisor application
  • A student application was built to allow them to review their TDA. As a result five thousand TDA’s were submitted by students during the Fall using the new student application
  • A compiled directory of advisors and their office hours was published
