Goal 2 Strengthen Infrastructure

Strengthening the core information technology infrastructure

A robust and responsive information technology and communications infrastructure requires constant planning and investment. CSU Fullerton prides itself on providing IT services built on an agile and modern infrastructure. For AY12-13 the Division of IT developed and completed the following initiatives to strengthen the core information technology infrastructure.

Supporting Strategies

  • Data Center Consolidation
    Relocating all independent data centers/server rooms located throughout campus into a main campus Data Center
  • Telephone System Upgrade 
    Complete the implementation of the upgraded Aastra Clearspan VoIP system
  • Campus Network Upgrade
    Continue to upgrade the campus wired and wireless network infrastructure to meet usage demands
  • Accessible Technology Initiative 
    Continue to oversee campus compliance of the CSU's Accessible Technology Initiative ensuring system-wide compliance with Section 508

Accomplishments

Data Center Infrastructure Upgrade and Consolidation

The University Data Center is a critical area requiring campus resources to be allocated to prevent an enterprise-wide disaster due to cooling or power failures

  • Physical Plant upgraded the power and cooling in the Data Center to accommodate expansion and campus-wide consolidation efforts
  • Relocated College of Business servers to the Data Center
  • Relocated the College of Engineering servers to the Data Center
  • Hosting the high performance computing cluster for the Department of Physics

CSU Fullerton Cloud Services

Investigate and promote Fullerton hosted services as possible revenue sources for future growth

  • Increased revenue through successfully executed and funded MOUs' for CSU Fullerton hosted services

Telephone System Upgrade

Complete the implementation of the upgraded Aastra Clearspan VoIP system

  • Completed placing 4100 new desktop phones across campus

Campus Network Upgrade

Continue to upgrade the campus wired and wireless network infrastructure to meet usage demands

  • Increased capacity from 1GB to 10GB in order to accommodate all campus network traffic
  • 150 additional wireless access points were deployed around campus increasing wireless coverage and reliability, enabling IT to provide a wireless electronic ticketing system for commencement 

Virtual Information Security Center (VISC)

Continue to offer CSU participating campuses VISC services 

  • Successfully implemented information security risk management, incident management, standards and procedures development, monitoring and information security product evaluation on VISC operated campuses

Accessible Technology Initiative

Continue to oversee campus compliance of the CSU's Accessible Technology Initiative ensuring system-wide compliance with Section 508

  • Campus compliance reported annually to the Chancellor’s Office
  • Campus demonstrates commitment to accessible technologies through monthly scanning and remediation efforts
  • Procurement process now includes the responsible purchasing of ATI compliant hardware and software
  • Anyone sending out widely distributed content receives person to person assistance for ATI compliance
  • Employees with authorization to a distribution list are required to complete ATI training
