Nursing Office The department of nursing’s Gerontological Nursing Program under the direction of Dr. Barbara Haddad, established an Adult Health Promotion Program at the Ruby Gerontology Center. Staffed by student nurses in a completion BSN program, all are registered nurses usually working full-time while attending school. Operating as a nurse advice clinic older adults are welcome to drop by during the clinic open hours.
Purpose
This program will explore and implement models of health promotion, which guide the process of motivating people to engage in healthy behaviors. it will reflect the multidimensional nature of individuals actively seekin to improve their well being. Such models will include individual characteristics and experiences, perceptual factors, environmental conditions, and specified behavioral outcomes. Utilizing a biopsycosocial perspectiv, health care practitioners from a variety of disciplines will offer traditional and alternative approaches to wellness.
Goals
- Provide a variety of direct care services, ranging from the conventional Western medical model to alternative health care modalities.
- Provide student education and in-service training related to promoting the health of older adults.
- Promote interdisciplinary research in the practice setting on age related predictors for health behavior change.
- Collaborate with community agencies in sharing resources and providing services to meet the health promotion needs of older adults.
