  How to Pick a Program

Deciding which study abroad program is right for you can sometimes seem like an overwhelming undertaking. With so many possibilities, you can sometimes feel as though you are swamped with too much information. But, fear not. Start by considering the list of questions below. Then, read over the following pages about program types, academic issues, financial considerations, and the application process.

In addition, feel free to schedule an appointment with the Study Advisor or contact the Study Abroad Student Assistant. The student assistant is an undergraduate student who has studied abroad in the past and is familiar with the process of studying abroad, and can help you select a program.

What Program is Best for Me?
Though there are hundreds of programs, as a Cal State Fullerton student, all programs fall into one of four categories:

Each program is different; the best way to be sure of your decision is to look at all four types.  If you get confused about the different programs or would like clarification about the different types of programs the Study Abroad Office is available to answer questions: sabroad@fullerton.edu

Questions To Ask Yourself
There are a few questions you should ask yourself before beginning the search for a study abroad program. There are no right or wrong answers. Organizing your answers will help you create a set of realistic expectations to guide your search.

1. Where do you want to study abroad? Why?

2. Do you have any financial constraints?

3. When would you like to study abroad, and for how long?

4. What are your specific goals for studying abroad?

5. Are there any course requirements that you must fulfill while studying abroad?

6. Have you discussed studying aboard with your parents/guardian/other interested parties?

7. Have you discussed your study abroad plan and its effect on your academic plan with your academic advisor?

8. Do you have dependents?

These are not the only questions to consider, each student will have different needs and different questions.  Be sure to meet with a representative from the Study Abroad Office to discuss other questions/needs you may have.
