LEARN TO CODE & BE A SUPERHERO

Hadi Partovi, founder of Code.org

What makes Superman so different from us? How is it that he is more powerful than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet or able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Computer programmers or coders, possess abilities that seem superhuman. They have mastered specialized skills to create anything from computer video games to word processors.  One person teaching normal people these special skills is Hadi Partovi, co-founder of education non-profit Code.org, one of many online sources.

Your coding journey on Code.org begins by going through the Hour of Code lesson, with video lectures by tech giants such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. In this game-like coding lesson, you learn the basic building blocks of programing such as: basic algorithms, conditionals and repeat loops. Using popular game themes from Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies, the lesson keeps you interested by allowing you to drag and drop coding blocks into place to make the characters on the screen perform the desired action. At any time during the lesson you can display the actual code you are creating.

Beyond the Hour of Code, you can learn more specific programming languages such as JavaScript or Python. Code.org provides even more fun and creative lessons that include how to program with robots, where you build robots using LEGO pieces and write the code that moves them.
