CSU DOCTORAL INCENTIVE PROGRAM-2008-2009* |
The CSU has announced the continuation of the Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) for the 2008/09 academic year.
The program is a competitive program open to full-time doctoral students at
accredited universities across the country and is designed around
the principle that maintaining the excellence of the faculty requires
support for quality. To do this, the CDIP Loan Program provides
financial assistance to doctoral students qualified to fill instructional
faculty positions at campuses in the CSU following the award of
the doctoral degree.
The Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP) offers financial support and
faculty sponsorship to students pursuing doctoral degrees full time, and who
plan to pursue a teaching career in the CSU following the successful
completion of the doctoral degree. This program provides loans up
to $10,000 per year for a total of $30,000 over a 5-year period.
The loan forgiveness will be at 20% of the loan for each year of
full-time postdoctoral teaching at a CSU campus.
Each applicant is evaluated on his/her potential to complete an
accredited, full-timedoctoral program and compete successfully for a CSU tenure-track
faculty position. The probable need for faculty in the candidate's
field at the time when the doctoral student enters the job market
is also considered. Being selected for the Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive does not guarantee any participant a teaching position within
the CSU. All participants are subject to the usual competitive application
process for any position within the CSU. A campus committee will
review all applications and forward their recommendations to the
President. The President, in turn, will forward his nominations
to the Office of the Chancellor where all applications will be reviewed
by a system wide committee that makes its recommendations to the
Chancellor. Selections are announced in May.
Applications will be available in the Office of the Associate Vice
President for Academic Affairs (McCarthy Hall, Room 133) through January, 2007. Deans and Associate Deans in each of the colleges will receive brochures
with complete program information. Completed applications will be
due in McCarthy Hall, Room 133, on Friday, February 1, 2008. Note that incomplete
applications or applications received after the deadline will not
be accepted.
If you know of any students and/or lecturers who might be interested
in and qualify for this program, please encourage their application.
The three criteria for acceptance are:
|
|
- Faculty sponsor's plan of support
|
- Need for faculty within the candidate's discipline
|
The program is competitive and only the highest quality
proposal will succeed.
Any questions regarding the program should be directed to Amy Alspaugh in the Office of Academic Affairs at (714) 278-2616.
