Benefits/Privileges

Eligibility for benefits for those appointed less than full-time depends upon the type, length, and time base of the appointment. For an employee to be eligible for benefits, they must be appointed for at least six weighted teaching units each semester. Part-Lecturers should consult with Office of Human Resources (CP-700), (657) 278-2425 with regard to health and retirement benefits. Consult with the office of Faculty Affairs and Records in MH-128 (657) 278-2125 for compensation, leaves and other faculty specific issues.

California Faculty Association

The Higher Education Employee Relations Act (HEERA) authorized the formation of groups of CSU employees for the purpose of collective bargaining. Unit 3 (faculty) is represented by the California Faculty Association (CFA). The Trustees of the CSU and CFA negotiate an agreement, known as the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which sets forth wages, hours, and conditions of employment for Unit 3 employees (full and part-time faculty, librarians, athletic coaches, and academic related counselors). Employees are not required to join the union as a condition of employment. Questions regarding the most current version of the CBA and interpretation of its contents may be directed to the office of Faculty Affairs and Records (MH-128) (657) 278-2125.

To reach these goals it is imperative that we foster a climate where civility is valued, appreciated, and expected and where all members of the community are treated with dignity, respect and care...” See UPS 100.006

Inappropriate Faculty-Student Relationships

The importance of individual faculty-student contact is clear, especially when this contact includes the encouragement of the student's academic development. Occasionally, it is possible that a faculty member's interests in a student's well-being might be misunderstood and the faculty member might attract the romantic interest of a student. With regards to students currently in their classes, faculty should avoid acting in a way that a student might interpret as encouraging anything beyond a professional relationship. In the event that any inappropriate student behavior should develop, the faculty member must consult with the department chair or dean immediately. The chair or dean will involve the Dean of Students and the student will receive appropriate counseling and be asked to desist.

Amorous or sexual relationships between faculty or staff and a member of the University community for whom they have teaching, evaluative, advocacy, counseling, advising, or supervisory responsibilities are unacceptable , even if the parties involved view such a relationship as consensual. For additional information, consult UPS 240.200 (Policy on Amorous or Sexual Relationship Between Faculty, Staff, and Students), the Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs (657-278-2616), or the Office of Diversity and Equity Programs (657-278-3951). http://diversity.fullerton.edu/Policy/PolicySexualHarassmentBrochure.aspx

Keys

All State keys are issued through University Police.  Key request forms must be completed by the requesting department with an "authorized" signature (a Department Chair, Assistant Chair, or Department Head).    Requests on Yellow card stock (for desk, cabinet, podium keys and buildings currently on the old key system) will be sent to University Police, logged in, and then forwarded to the lock shop to be filled. These key requests will usually be filled within 4 to 8 working days.  To check if your keys are ready, call (657) 278-4308.  When picking up keys, individuals must present Faculty/Staff identification or picture ID.

Requests for keys to the gates or doors of buildings that are on the new system must be on the Blue card stock.  These requests will be completed by the requesting department with an "authorized" signature (Department Chair or their designee) and must be brought in person to University Police by the individual receiving the keys with picture ID and the keys will be immediately issued.

Keys can be picked up at University Police located at the corner of Gym Drive and State College Boulevard Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 8pm.  Unclaimed keys will be returned to lock shop after 30 days.

Lost keys can be replaced at a fee; currently $25.00 per lost key. If the original keys are found and returned to University Police, any fees paid will be refunded

Discriminatory behavior includes derogatory and/or disparaging language or actions, and condemnation or insults based upon race, ethnicity, citizenship, national origin, sex, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, marital status or veteran status of another.

The University's nondiscrimination policy is contained in UPS 240.000 and addresses the general policies, programmatic responses, and the guidelines for establishing campus procedures for resolving complaints. Guidelines for procedures for resolving employee complaints filed under the provisions of this policy are contained in Executive Order 927 Systemwide Policy Prohibiting Harassment Investigation http://www.calstate.edu/eo/EO-927.pdf and the faculty collective bargaining agreement, Article 10 Grievance. Payroll/Salary/Compensation

New, temporary faculty and faculty returning after 1 (one) year of separation must first visit Human Resources—Payroll (College Park, Suite 770) to complete the requisite paperwork and “sign-in” process before beginning to teach courses. The sign-in process includes verification of work authorization status, verification of social security card, a loyalty oath (required by all U.S. citizens) and an income tax withholding declaration. These forms must be completed before a prospective employee can begin work. Verification of Work Authorization Status is mandated by the 1986 Immigration Reform and

Control Act (ICRA) before every prospective employee can begin to work. Section 1 of the I-9 form must be completed by the employee no later than the date on which his/her employments begins. A list of documents acceptable to establish authorization to accept employment in the United States will be provided. Section 2 of the I-9 must be completed by the campus within three (3) business days of the date on which the employment begins. If a prospective employee does not have proper work authorization, he/she cannot be hired or begin work. The University has the responsibility to verify each employee's social security number (SSN) upon commencement of employment to accurately record and report SSNs to our pay agent, the State Controller's Office (SCO).

If all required documentation is complete and submitted in time to be fully processed prior to the State Controller's monthly cut-off date for the fall semester or at the end of February for the spring semester, otherwise, your first paycheck will be late.

Your salary is payable in six equal monthly installments for each FULL semester employed. If you have a fall-only appointment, you will receive your first paycheck for the September pay period on or near October 1st and receive your sixth and final paycheck at the end of February. If you have a spring-only appointment, you will receive your 1st paycheck for the February pay period on March 1st and your sixth and final paycheck at the end of July.

If you have an academic year appointment or a fall appointment renewed for spring without a separation, your check for the February pay period represents your first installment for the spring semester. You will receive your sixth and final paycheck for the spring semester at the end of July, and for the fall semester at the end of August.

Some years, as part of the budget management strategy used on campus, final payments for the two semesters are issued in June instead of July and August. However, if you participate in the State's benefit program, you will receive your final payments in July and August as scheduled so that your deductions for benefits will continue.

Separation

Except when entitled, lecturer appointments automatically expire at the end of the period stated and do not establish consideration for subsequent appointments or any further appointments rights. No other notice will be provided.

Except for those entitled, lecturers are separated automatically at the end of their appointment. A completed Property Clearance form is required and must be submitted to Payroll Services to release of the final paycheck (usually referred to as a “pay warrant”). Property Clearance forms may be obtained from your academic department/division, from Payroll, or through the Informed Filler application installed on University computers.

All employees are responsible for returning University property including keys and library materials. The Payroll Office will notify your department/division in mid-December (mid-May for the spring semester) about deadlines for submitting completed Property Clearances forms to Payroll Services.
