Message from the Associate Vice President

The temporary faculty plays an important role in meeting the mission of California State University, Fullerton. Temporary faculty, along with their full time faculty colleagues, work hard to make learning central and meaningful for our diverse and growing student body. With this in mind and with a great deal of pride in our faculty expertise and accomplishments, I welcome to CSUF all you who are new or returning part time faculty.
The importance of creating a dynamic learning community requires all of us to continuously innovate and assess how we engage our students and each other, how we implement technology in our classrooms and to expand the University’s learning environment and how we prepare ourselves for the many challenges of the classroom.
To assist both new and seasoned part timers in obtaining campus information and answers to questions that might arise during their teaching assignments, some CSUF lecturers, support staff and administrators have compiled this handbook that I hope will serve you well as a source of valuable information.
This handbook has been designed for use by temporary faculty as a practical guide that outlines some logistical, administrative, professional and developmental resources available to all CSUF faculty. It is revised periodically, based on evaluations and suggestions from other part timers and to keep it current when campus policies or practices are changed. This handbook is not intended to be exhaustive nor does it replace the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Nonetheless, I do hope it provides you with readily accessible answers to some of the most common questions asked by our temporary employees.
My sincere thanks are extended to the members of the CSUF Part time Faculty Orientation Team, the Faculty Development Center, the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and to the staff members from many offices for all their work reviewing and drafting the current edition.
My best wishes to you for a productive semester.
