Student Integration and Retention

Pre-entry attributes, in conjunction with institutional academic and social experience, determine the extent to which students integrate into an institution. Institutional integration is depicted as a paradigm consisting of formal and informal aspects of each of two components: Academic Integration and Social Integration. Measures of social integration have typically focused on the extent and quality of students' relationships and interactions with peers and faculty. Academic Integration deals with responses to Grade Point Average (GPA) and student satisfaction with intellectual development, leading to higher retention rates.
