Completing Developmental English And Writing Requirements During The Summer
If a grade of "CR" is not earned in a developmental English course (English 99, or FLED
99) and/or a developmental mathematics course (math 30A, math 30B, math 40 or math 45),
you will have to fulfill compliance requirements during the summer before fall classes begin
at CSUF in order to maintain eligibility for the continuing fall registration. The school
also refers to these requirements as developmental (remedial) compliance requirements. This
particular compliance requirement mostly applies to first time freshmen admitted in a fall
term; however, these requirements do apply to students admitted in any spring term as well.
The requirement is to fulfill developmental activity within the first two semesters in
attendance. For example, if the first semester in attendance is fall, students will have
an opportunity to complete developmental requirements in the spring semester. If developmental
requirements are not completed within the first two semesters in attendance, students will
not be allowed to enroll in classes for the following semester. Students do have an opportunity
to finish and complete compliance requirements over the summer. Once completed, a student
is eligible to return.
However, the first two semesters are not counted consecutively. If a student enrolls in
classes for the fall term and does not attend classes in the following spring semester at
CSUF, he/she is eligible to return for the following fall semester. The second fall semester
in attendance will serve as the second and final attempt to complete compliance requirements.

If compliance requirements are not fulfilled, your best option is taking a developmental
course at a neighboring community college. Summer registration at CSUF will not be
available to you because the two-term limit to complete compliance requirements was
exceeded. |
When should I begin looking for summer courses at a community college?

If there is any doubt that you will not pass the developmental course here at CSUF,
register and enroll at a local community college as soon as possible. You should begin
the community college summer registration process in early May. |
May I take developmental English at a community college to fulfill CSUF compliance requirements?

CSUF will accept articulated developmental English courses from community colleges.
Before you decide to take a developmental writing course at a community college, you
should confirm whether or not the course is articulated as an English 99 equivalent
course with the Intensive Learning Experience in MH 26. |

May I take developmental mathematics at a community college to fulfill CSUF compliance

colleges. Before you decide to take an intermediate algebra course at a community
college, you should confirm whether or not the course is articulated as an intermediate
algebra with the Intensive Learning Experience in MH 26. |

What about courses equivalent to math 30A and math 30B?

Currently, there are two community colleges in the immediate southern California
area that offer courses equivalent to Math 30A and Math 30B. Mt. San Antonio College
(Mt. SAC) and Cerritos College offer a two-part intermediate algebra course. |

Mt. SAC offers Math 71A and Math 71B |
|
Cerritos offers Math 80A and Math 80B |
|
Each A and B component is equivalent to our Math 30A and Math 30B respectively. |
How do I register and enroll at the community college?

Start by purchasing a schedule of classes from the community college you plan on
attending. Follow all the registration instructions and be aware of timelines and
deadlines for registration and placement tests. |
What if I do not pass my class(es) over the summer?

You will have a chance to complete developmental requirements during the fall by
utilizing the "stop-out" policy. This policy can be used for one semester only and
you are required to complete developmental requirements during the "stop-out" semester.
This means you can be absent for one semester and return to CSUF for the following
semester and still be eligible to enroll in classes provided you complete the developmental
requirements. However, if you are absent for two or more semesters, you will have
to reapply to CSUF. |

If you complete the developmental class(es) in the fall, you will be required to
provide an official grade card and transcripts in order to register for spring classes.
You will not be not allowed to register in TITAN I (first window of spring registration
in November) because course work at the community college is still in progress. Registration
will not be available to you until early January (TITAN II). |
After I have completed the developmental course(s) at a community college, where do
I go with my grade cards and transcripts?

You will need to show your grade card and transcripts to the Intensive Learning
Experience program coordinator and the Admissions and Records office. |
