Director of Athletics
The Director of Athletics provides leadership for an NCAA Division I Athletic program, which includes fifteen intercollegiate teams, and maintains a proud history of twelve national team championships in seven different sports, hundreds of individual All-Americans, dozens of eventual professional athletes, numerous national coach of the year award winners, and Olympic basketball and soccer players. Reports directly to the University President with day to day oversight handled by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Responsible for all athletic programs, business affairs, marketing and promotions, public relations, development, external relations, internal affairs, personnel, and funds of the athletic program in accordance with University policies and procedures. Fosters the highest standards of integrity and compliance in all Athletic Department programs and operations and instills the same among coaches and student athletes, and assures that the integrity of the University’s athletics is at the highest level. Supports an environment for the academic success of student-athletes, and advances an athletics program that is nationally competitive in all sports. Strong marketing and sales oriented individual, who can lead and develop voluntary leadership in support for athletics. Familiar with NCAA rules and regulations, able to lead by example, and display leadership in athletic administration, fundraising, marketing, and community affairs. Commitment and an understanding of a learning-centered academic environment. Other duties as assigned.
Master's from an accredited institution of higher education required. Five years of successful management, supervision and leadership in athletics. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Experience in a higher education institution of similar size and athletic program. Proven leadership for promoting and marketing athletic program within a university, and proven success in fundraising and implementation of revenue generating activities. Ability to clearly articulate vision and philosophy of the role of intercollegiate athletics in University life. Demonstrated commitment to a program of academic and athletic excellence. Experience in fiscal planning and budget management. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with alumni, faculty, staff, administrators, donors, students and the community. Demonstrated strategic planning and implementation experience. Successful experience in donor development and fundraising. Demonstrated experience and expertise in public relations. Demonstrated commitment of working with multicultural populations and awareness of issues affecting women and minorities.
