Bill McGarvey recognizes and supports the efforts of the Adult Reentry population and their decision to return to the university to complete their education. The number of Adult Reentry women and men at our university is rapidly growing. Often, the challenges and responsibilities they face may seem unsurmountable. Many students are struggling; however they do not meet the requirements of Financial Aid. The circumstances frequently involve supporting a family while working and attending classes, as well as additional responsibilities that life experiences may present. This scholarship is offered to assist those students in meeting educational expenses, while staying current and/or advancing in a highly competitive society.
Thurmond Scholarship Fund
The Thurmond Family, community philanthropists, established a College Scholarship Fund for reentry women 24 years or older to attend Fullerton College, (FC), or California State University, Fullerton, (CSUF). Today, the Thurmond Scholarship Fund provides a constant investment in the lives of women and the opportunity for advancing women in today's highly competitive society.
Late Bloomers Scholarship
The Late Bloomers scholarship was established by Shirley Bloom in 2014. Mrs. Bloom believed that education is a powerful tool which breaks down barriers and opens doors of opportunity. The primary goal is to help women who have the greatest financial challenges to continue to move forward in their education and gain skills that will result in employment and self-sufficiency. Many achieve self-sufficiency through training and educational opportunities offered at CSUF with a four year degree or higher education in their chosen field.
