Research & Prospect/Relationship Management

University Advancement's department of Research and Prospect Management provides the information necessary for development staff to successfully cultivate, solicit and steward donors in the most effective way possible.

Using a variety of tools, including paid subscriptions, library resources, the Internet and other current technologies, advancement researchers collect, evaluate, analyze, organize, package and disseminate publicly available information in a way that maximizes its usefulness and enables accurate and educated decision-making.

This research is delivered to development officers in the form of written profiles which can answer specific information requests; include basic biographic, business information, and philanthropic interests; and/or, include wealth and gift capacity analysis.

UA researchers also are responsible for maintaining the prospect/relationship management and tracking system which provides a framework of procedures to ensure communication and coordination withing the community of internal individuals (facutly, staff and administrators) and volunteers who interact with prospects, donors and strategic partners.

Research and Prospect Management staff adheres to the ethical guidelines of the Association of Professional Research for Advancement (APRA). Information collected is therefore limited to public sources such as media reports, news articles, library references and public databases. Examples of information that are not available include: unlisted phone numbers or e-mail addresses; ownership in a publicly held company when the individual is not an officer, director or owner of 10% or more of the company’s shares; ownership in a privately held company, unless that information can be found in a news article or other publicly available report; personal data such as private financial, medical or tax information.
