UA Strategic Plan 2013 - 2018

University Advancement leads an integrated and collaborative effort to secure philanthropic investment in the University’s strategic goals, its programs and students; build and nurture relationships with its constituents; and develop, communicate and showcase Cal State Fullerton's co-curricular and academic excellence. To achieve success and advance the University’s strategic plan, we seek to create the infrastructure to support philanthropic activity, inform our stakeholders, involve our partners, and inspire a culture of giving and investment to propel us to become a model public comprehensive university, nationally recognized for exceptional programs that prepare our diverse student body for academic and professional success.

Goal 1: Invest

Develop a culture of philanthropic investment to increase overall giving to at least $15 million annually by 2018.

Strategies:

  1. Develop a robust pipeline to prepare alumni, donors and prospective donors to make increasingly significant current and planned gifts to all areas of the University.
  2. Partner across campus to increase productivity in corporate and foundation grants.
  3. Implement a comprehensive stewardship plan to increase donor engagement and continued giving.
  4. Create innovative and effective programs to increase student, faculty and staff engagement in philanthropy.

Aligns with the following University Strategic Plan Goals and Strategies:
4a:
Implement a comprehensive development plan with an established baseline that moves the University toward its desired position in terms of stakeholder engagement and fundraising.

4b: Provide resources, enhance infrastructure, develop support systems and provide incentives necessary to increase faculty and staff engagement in fundraising, entrepreneurial activities, grants and contracts.

4c: Enhance the University’s external relationships by informing and educating external stakeholders about the impact of CSUF and our students on the region.



Goal 2: Involve

Engage a diverse cross-section of stakeholders in efforts to advance the mission and interests of the University by utilizing a strategic and multifaceted approach.

Strategies:

  1. Further develop dynamic and diverse advancement-related boards.
  2. Strengthen advocacy and community outreach efforts to enhance our presence in key regions in southern California.
  3. Collaborate across campus to increase productivity in entrepreneurial activities, public grants, and contracts.
  4. Partner with other divisions to enhance our student-alumni programming and integration of parent and family outreach efforts.
  5. Engage and reconnect alumni to the University through enhanced programmatic efforts to build lifelong connections.
  6. Increase outreach efforts in diverse communities to leverage new and existing partnership opportunities.

1d:
Identify, expand and provide resources to curricular and co-curricular programs that advance students’ recognition of roles they play in an interdependent global community.

1e: Provide resources for programs that increase student participation in activities and services that link degree, career and community.

2b: Identify and increase participation in new and ongoing efforts that support underrepresented student persistence and achievement.

2c: Identify, track and integrate curricular and co-curricular High-Impact Practices and ensure participation in one HIP in the first year and one subsequent HIP in students’ major field.

4b: Provide resources, enhance infrastructure, develop support systems and provide incentives necessary to increase faculty and staff engagement in fundraising, entrepreneurial activities, grants and contracts.



Goal 3: Inform and Inspire

Enhance communication to better inform stakeholders about the University and our graduates’ impact on and value to our region, state, and global community.

Strategies:

  1. Develop and execute a research-based marketing communications plan to inspire and position our stakeholders as advocates and supporters for the University and its mission.
  2. Increase awareness of civic and regional economic development opportunities to establish the University’s role as stewards of place.
  3. Implement a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to reaching policymakers at the local, state, and federal level.
  4. Utilizing our expertise, serve the internal campus community by providing customer service, proactive communication efforts and resources to advance University priorities.

Goal 4: Infrastructure

Create the divisional infrastructure necessary to ensure adequate systems are in place to leverage opportunities and optimize effectiveness at all levels.

Strategies:

  1. Continually assess processes to streamline workflow and respond to divisional gaps.
  2. Ensure high quality information and maintain commitment to data to better assist the University in meeting fundraising objectives.
  3. Invest in efforts to recruit and retain a diverse staff and provide professional development opportunities throughout all career stages.  
  4. Continually assess philanthropic and endowment management to support the University.
  5. Improve internal communication to ensure knowledge, expertise, information sharing, and collaboration across the division.
  6. Enhance donor stewardship through timely response and appropriate communication regarding their giving.
