Prop 1D: Potential Funding Source for CSUF
Proposition 1D, the Kindergarten-University Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2006, will be on the November 7 ballot allocating funds towards higher education:
- $3.1 billion for higher education, $7.3 billion for K-12
- $14.9 million for CSUF academic program facilities
- $6.6 million for the Steven G. Mihaylo Hall
(new CBE building)
- $6.6 million to upgrade and renovate aging facilities
- $1.7 million for construction of a clinical and computing laboratory for nursing inside the Kinesiology and Health Science Building
The bond measure, which requires a simple majority to pass, will not raise or create new taxes. While there is no organized opposition at this time, some have voiced concern about the cost of the bond for the state, the variety of new programs funded and the fact that it funds just two years of need.
Proponents argue that the bond measure is a fiscally responsible way to finance school repair and construction, makes schools earthquake safe, and it does not obligate the state beyond what it can afford now. Additional information about the bond, including arguments for and against the measure, is available online at www.ss.ca.gov or www.Prop1D.org.
The Seldom Produced -- "SPRING STORM"
by Tennessee Williams
Now on stage at the CSUF Performing Arts Center
All the boys desire southern belle Heavenly Critchfield, while she favors tough-living river rat, Dick Miles. Boys lust, townspeople gossip and audiences thrill to this beguiling, little-known melodrama that echoes the gripping passion and poignancy of "Summer and Smoke," "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "The Glass Menagerie." Sexually charged Mississippi in the spring of 1937 might offer the best theatrical moments of 2006! "Spring Storm" will play every Saturday and Sunday until November 12. Learn about upcoming arts events or ticket information.
