Business Titans Fall Mixer
The Business Titans Alumni Chapter kicked off their new year with a Fall mixer at Mesa Lounge in Costa Mesa on Wednesday, September 19. Recent grads and established Alumni networked under the moon as Mesa's retractable roof allowed for mingling under the stars. Alumni from various backgrounds were in attendance such as Graphic Designers, Attorneys, and Software Engineers. For many it was the first Alumni event attended, but as several guests said – it won’t be their last. Lenin Rueda '10 commented, "I love that this event is at Mesa because it’s a place I would come and hang out on my own. The place has a great ambiance and I hope to come back again."
Leverage Social Media to Grow your Business and Network
On Tuesday, February 28 the Business Titans hosted Speakers Series Event “Leverage Social Media to Grow your Business and Network.” The evening began with a welcome and tour of Irvine campus from Assistant Dean Marsha Daughetee. Greg Johnson ’90 and Jason Gerdon ’08 provided alumni and guests a wealth of information on the topic of social media.
The discussion ranged from building and owning your personal brand to the impact of social media on businesses and individuals in transition. A Q & A session followed where one alumnus asked how one finds time to engage in all social media platforms. Jason answered by saying, “You are your own personal brand, the extent to which you will invest in yourself is the extent to which you will reap your rewards. If companies can’t survive without investing in marketing themselves, neither can you.”
Networking and Beer Tasting
Alumni enjoyed networking and beer tasting at the Bootlegger’s Brewery in Fullerton on November 9 hosted by the Business Titans Alumni Chapter. The Proprietor & Head Brewer of the microbrewery is alumnus Aaron Barkenhagen '07.
Branding Yourself as a Business of One
Jeff Beals, the award-winning author of "Self Marketing Power" shared with attendees the art of self marketing and building one's personal brand on September 14 at a Joint Chapters Mixer at the O’Brien Room in Mihaylo College. Beals shared that the art of self marketing is difficult for a lot of people and provided tips to help build personal brand while striking a balance between healthy self promotion and egotistical boasting.
In attendance was current student, Conrad Hawk, who won a coaching session donated by Life Coach and alumna, Mina Watkins '01.

Titans Learn How to Get an Edge on Applying for MBA Programs
Alumni & guests picked up skills to improve their MBA candidacy as well as how to think like an admission officer at the GMAT/MBA Program Seminar on September 22 hosted by the Business Titans Chapter. Attendees asked crucial questions and noted important tips from GMAT Instructor Dr. Mia McIver from Veritas Prep.
Dr. McIver provided insightful test taking strategies, one which surprised Alumnus Luis Juarez '11 as he remarked, "Wow! Who would have thought solving crossword and sudoku puzzles would help boost my GMAT score. I'm glad I made it out tonight, the information gained really helps me rethink how I will approach my study sessions."
MBA Recruitment Specialist from the Mihaylo College of Business & Economics, Andrew Choi, ended the info session by providing awareness about the MBA program.
Networking on Purpose - The Roadmap to Success
Alumnus Greg Johnson '90, an executive coach with Above The Rim Executive Coaching provided advice about networking as a key tool in enabling professionals to leverage relationships and maximize career development opportunities on July 28. Alumnus Bryan Shigekuni ’08 remarked “I enjoy attending the Business Titans Chapter networking mixers because everyone is friendly and welcoming. I also got to make new contacts and reconnect with previous attendees. Also, picked up some networking tips from speaker Greg Johnson too. Looking forward to the next event!” View photos.
FORE! Business Titans Mix it up Fore Fun and Networking
Alumni from the Business Titans Chapter attended a joint mixer with Fore Networking company at the Golfsmith in Brea on July 12. Along with networking, attendees also received a goodie bag from Golfsmith and a putting lesson from a golf pro. Founder of Fore Networking, Sinnary Sam, commented, "I love collaborating with the right purpose in mind. Hosting a joint event with the Alumni Association provided the perfect mix of business professionals, young entrepreneurs and most importantly, business golfers to network and exchange information. The event was a success, everyone had a great time and funds were raised to support the scholarship program. Thanks to the Association for working together with FORE Networking."
There were a number of first time attendees that evening including Yadira Arcadia ’07 who expressed, “ It was of great benefit for me to attend this network meeting. I am currently a stay at home mother and planning to return to the work force. By attending this event, I was able to get advice on alternate ways to be successful in my job search. Business Titans enjoyed networking at the Manhattan in Orange on May 23. Attendees not only enjoyed the ambiance of The Manhattan but also enjoyed making and building business connections with fellow Titans. Long Beach Irish Pub, EJ Malloys was the scene for the Business Titans Chapter's first L.A. County mixer on April 7. Business Titans Enjoyed Networking and Beer Tasting
The Proprietor & Head Brewer of Bootlegger’s Brewery, alumnus Aaron Barkenhagen '07 hosted Business Titans for an evening of beer tasting. Attendees networked and tasted unique craft beers including the limited release of the IPA knuckle sandwich that was voted the best craft beer of 2010 in a poll hosted by the www.TheFullPint.com website.
Business Titans enjoy Networking and Football
More than 25 Business Titans enjoyed an evening of Monday Night Football and informal networking at 300 Anaheim Bowling on October 25. The event hosted by the Business Titans and Real Estate & Entrepreneur Chapters wants to increase opportunities for Business Titans to connect with each other. The next Monday Night Football/ Bowling Social is on November 15.
College of Communications and Mihaylo College of Business & Economics Alumni Connect
Members of both the Business Titans and Communications alumni chapters connected at Ruby’s Diner in Laguna Hills on October 27 on a beautiful evening. Appetizers and drinks were served on the patio, courtesy of Ruby’s. Attendees reported that they enjoyed the event and would love to schedule another mixer at the same location sometime in the near future.
Business Chapters Raises More than $2,000 for Alumni Association Scholarships
The Accounting, Business Titans and Real Estate & Entrepreneur Chapters co-hosted a Mega Bowling Summer Mixer on June 23 at 300 Bowling in Anaheim with proceeds benefiting the Alumni Association scholarship fund. Attendees enjoyed networking, pizza and bowling while supporting a good cause. It was a success for the chapter program as for the first time ever, the chapters collectively raised a total of $2,100 for the Alumni Association scholarships. View Photos
Business Alumni “Link OC” at Monthly Mixer
Alumni from the Business Titans and the Real Estate & Entrepreneur Chapters hosted a joint mixer featuring speaker Bryan Elliott, founder of Linked OC and guest professor at Chapman University on May 25.
After personally speaking to participants, presented the organization Linked OC and the television show that he produces 24 in the OC. Volunteers from the Business Titans Chapter also helped to promote membership at the information booth.View photos
Business Titans Learn to be Better Networkers
An attendance of more than 50 Business Titans and Orange County Executives and Networkers (OCEAN) members attended the April 23rd "Taking it Offline - Effective Networking in the Real World" mixer with Todd Herschberg, guest speaker and founder of OCEAN. The event was co-hosted by the Business Titans and the Real Estate & Entrepreneur Chapters at the Scott O’Brien Center in Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Herschberg provided valuable expertise including basic courtesy “Treat and approach people how you want to be treated and approached.”

Business Titans Alumni Pick Up LinkedIn Tips
More than 30 Titans attended the Business Titans Chapter networking mixer on March 17. Guest speaker Rebekah King wowed the crowd with her vast knowledge of how to utilize and maximize your LinkedIn account for your specific needs. King gave numerous examples on how to update your account and use your contacts to search for people and companies you’re looking to work with.
The presentation spurred many Titans to ask questions about the benefits of adding groups, uploading a resume and deciding on a picture for the profile.
Event attendees commented that King’s presentation was very positive and she gave great insight and easy directions on how to use LinkedIn for everyday use.
Business Titans Networking Gaining Momentum
The Business Titans and Real Estate & Entrepreneur Chapters hosted a successful joint networking mixer on February 17 at Citrus Café in Tustin. More than 30 alumni met to exchange business cards and discuss life after Cal State Fullerton. President of the Business Titans Chapter, James McKinney ’03, encouraged all members to continue to network beyond the mixers and to stay connected with the Chapter through its LinkedIn group and webpage. The evening ended with a drawing for a trip to Cancun courtesy of ChivasUSA.

Business Titans Chapter Alumni Meet with Dean of Mihaylo College
The Business Titans Chapter hosted their second mixer at the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics on January 20 2009. Attendees enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and complimentary bar service while interacting with fellow business-minded Titans. Dean Anil Puri of Mihaylo College of Business and Economics graciously spoke about the direction of the college and its success in recent years.
Chapter President, James McKinney '03 touted, "What a phenomenal event we had Wednesday evening! Even with the torrential downpour we had over 30 CSUF Business Titans ready to network. Thank you to everyone who attended. Your participation made it the success it was. It was inspiring to meet so many people with incredible success stories during their time at CSUF. Business Titans Networking Mixer 2009
The recently chartered Business Titans Chapter hosted their inaugural networking mixer before the Chivas USA soccer game at the Home Depot Center on October 17. Alumni had a great time, and for many, it was the first time attending a Cal State Fullerton event since graduation. Representing the chapter were chapter President James McKinney '03 and Public Relations Officer Jessica Acosta '08.
