A Slice of New York City at the Golleher Alumni House
Alumni and guests gathered at the Golleher Alumni House to see it transformed to New York City for the the OC ♥ NYC Alumni Networking Event hosted by the College of Communications and the Hispanic/Latino Alumni Chapter on October 6. Before entering the event, attendees "took a ride" in the Cash Cab where they were put to the test with Cal State Fullerton trivia. Correct answers guaranteed Tuffy bucks which were later redeemed for cool Cal State Fullerton prizes. A la New York, pizza pie and cheesecake were served while attendees relaxed to cool urban beats from DJ Julian while cocktails like Cosmopolitans, Appletinis and Manhattans were sipped in the Skyline Lounge. Titan fans also had the special opportunity to take photos with New York Tuffy! The evening also provided an opportunity for alumnus Tony Ortega ’87, ’89 , Editor-in-Chief of The Village Voice to share pearls of wisdom about how he made it in the newspaper industry. His positive experience at Cal State Fullerton and interactions with professors and fellow students made an impact on his path in life and gave him valuable tools for his future goals. View photos.
Branding Yourself as a Business of One
Jeff Beals, the award-winning author of "Self Marketing Power" shared with attendees the art of self marketing and building one's personal brand on September 14 at a Joint Chapters Mixer at the O’Brien Room in Mihaylo College. Beals shared that the art of self marketing is difficult for a lot of people and provided tips to help build personal brand while striking a balance between healthy self promotion and egotistical boasting.
In attendance was current student, Conrad Hawk, who won a coaching session donated by Life Coach and alumna, Mina Watkins '01.
This event was co-hosted by the Accounting, Business Finance, Business Titans, College of Communications, Hispanic/Latino, Real Estate & Entrepreneur and Vietnamese-American MBA Chapters. View photos.
Celebrating Comm Week 2011 at Goodwin Field
In honor of Comm Week 2011 , the College of Communications Chapter hosted Communications alumni and Comm Week taskforce members at the Goodwin Field VIP Lounge before the game against Big West Conference rivals Pacific Tigers.
Chapter President Ashley Gonzalez ’06 expressed, "Thank you to everyone who attended the Comm Week Reunion/Reception. It was a great event! We look forward to doing it again next year!" View photos.
College of Communications and Mihaylo College of Business & Economics Alumni Connect
Members of both the Business Titans and Communications alumni chapters connected at Ruby’s Diner in Laguna Hills on October 27 on a beautiful evening. Appetizers and drinks were served on the patio, courtesy of Ruby’s. Attendees reported that they enjoyed the event and would love to schedule another mixer at the same location sometime in the near future.
"On Wings of the Penguins"
The College of Communications Chapter was proud to support “On Wings of the Penguins” screening produced and directed by alumna Stephanie Heredia ’83 on November 13 at the Titan Student Union. This documentary revealed the lives and adventures of the African penguins as they overcame life's challenges from oil spills off the coast of Africa to the destruction from Hurricane Katrina. Representing the chapter was Vice-President Rebecca Aguilar ’95 and Rocio Plasencia ’09. Proceeds will support the College of Communications scholarships at CSUF. Chapter President Ashley Gonzalez ’06 says: "The College of Communications Alumni Chapter is very proud of the achievements of our peer and fellow alumna Stephanie Heredia for her work on 'On The Wings of Penguins.' We are extremely glad that the College brought the film to Cal State Fullerton to share her work with us and help raise scholarship dollars for our students, who are the future of film and communications."
Speed Networking Mixer 2010
On April 29, 19 alumni and 25 students gathered for a speed networking event during Comm Week 2010 in the Garden Café at the Titan Student Union. The event marked the first time the speed networking concept has been used during Comm Week. Similar to “speed dating,” alumni remained seated and students rotated every five minutes. Discussion topics covered professional development, career advice and more.

Networking Mixer 2009
The College of Communications Alumni Chapter hosted a networking mixer for alumni on July 23 at the Golleher Alumni House. The event was attended by College of Communications Associate Dean Irene Matz and nearly 40 alumni who were able to interact with one another and build new connections. In addition, alumna Laarni Rosca Dacanay addressed the attendees at the event and shared her personal career story and how to network successfully. The College of Communications chapter looks forward to holding similar events in the future.
Wine Tasting Event 2008
The Communications Alumni Chapter enjoyed an evening of wine tasting as they connected with fellow Comm grads at the Twisted Vine in downtown Fullerton on Tuesday, October 21. Dean Rick Pullen from the College of Communications attended the mixer and spoke with alumni about the latest news from the College.
