Gerontology Annual Reception and Community Networking Event
Dr. Pauline Abbott and Peggy Weatherspoon, MSG, with the Gerontology Alumni Chapter co-hosted the Annual Reception and Community Networking event as an extension of the Professional Issues and Ethics in Aging course. The event was held at CSUF Goelleher Alumni House on May 11 and attracted more than 40 attendees including community leaders, professionals in the field of aging, CSUF faculty members from the Gerontology Program Council and graduates of the Gerontology Program. Students enrolled in the Gerontology Master of Science degree and those enrolled in the Kinesiology Master of Science degree with a minor in gerontology also were present. Gerontology Scholarship Reception Honors New Recipients
The Gerontology Alumni Chapter and Sigma Phi Omega co-sponsored the Gerontology Academic Program Reception on May 6 honoring 2010-2011 gerontology scholarship recipients and celebrating 2010 graduates of the a Gerontology Master of Science (MSG) program. About 55 attendees were present including the scholarship donors and CSUF faculty who are members of the Gerontology Program Council.
Gerontology Alumni Meet to Discuss Innovations in Technology for the Aging
The Gerontology Chapter hosted its annual brunch on Saturday, February 27 at the Ruby Gerontology Center. Despite the rain, more than 30 gerontology professionals, faculty and students attended and discussed innovations in the field of gerontology. An update of the California Assistive Technology Laboratory was provided by director of CSUF Institute of Gerontology, Pauline Abbott. This laboratory would provide a resource for innovation grounded in engineering expertise and could develop prototype products to assist the aging population.
As guests were leaving, one Gerontologist commented on how she didn’t want to miss any further events. Two more activities are lined up for May: a collaboration with the Gerontology Department on the scholarship awards ceremony and a networking event. Check back soon for dates and more information!
Networking Potluck Brings Alumni Together
The Gerontology Chapter hosted a networking potluck at the Council for Aging on December 2 2009. Alumni, friends and faculty gathered to catch up with other Titan grads and meet the newly elected chapter officers. New officers include:
President, Linda Ormes, MSG '09; Co-Vice Presidents of Programs, Jacqueline Lauder '00, MSG '04 and Marcia Williams, MSG '05; Vice President of Chapter Development, Nia Nakamura Cross '08, MSG '09; Vice President of Membership, Danelle Lopez Cole, MSG '09; Vice President of Records, Judy Aprile MSG ’09 and Vice President of Finance, Paco Perez MSG ’09.
President, Linda Ormes MSG '09: "The CSUF Gerontology Alumni Chapter seeks to maintain a strong voice for the Older Adults population as we move forward. The December 3rd Networking Event at the Council on Aging is just the beginning of bringing together those educated and caring individuals in the field of Gerontology. We will continue to gather as a group, connecting with for-profit and not-for-profit community organizations to maintain our camaraderie, fellowship and affiliation with the university through the years. "
Reorganization Meeting 2009
The Gerontology Chapter is currently working to revitalize the current structure and get new members involved. A reorganization meeting was hosted on August 27 at the Golleher Alumni House attended by 18 alumni and friends. The next step of the Gerontology Chapter is to recruit and elect officers.
2009 Gerontology Scholarship Winners Announced and Honored
The 2009-2010 Gerontology Scholarship recipients were announced and honored on May 8 at the Gerontology Scholarship Reception, which were attended by scholarship donors, scholarship winners, Gerontology faculty, and Gerontology alumni.
