After rousing victories in the San Diego Regional and the Fullerton Super Regional, the Titan baseball team was off to Omaha for their 15th College World Series (CWS) appearance. This trip also marked the fifth year since 2001 that alumni, fans and friends of Cal State Fullerton descended upon a small Midwestern street across from Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska.
Wherever they travel, one thing is for sure, Titans come out in force to support their team. In an effort to bring everyone together, the Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association and Titan Athletics Club host the “Titan House” on Rosenblatt Row each year. Friends and supporters who have made the trek to the Midwestforma special bond during the team’s run for the championship. Carlos Leija, executive director of
alumni relations, explained that it is a thrilling time to be a Titan. “There was an excitement before everyCSUF baseball game that was felt by all at the Titan House. Being located just outside Rosenblatt Stadium provided the setting-the smell of BBQ, the roar of the fans, the sound of the baseball striking the aluminum bat, the sight of people clad in blue and orange all lent to an amazing lifelong memory,” Leija said.
Although the Titans did not go on to victory this year, they made history playing in the longest game in CWS history against west coast rival UCI. After the game, the team, coaches and fans returned to the
Titan House. Leija observed, “Everyone was just cheering for the team as they walked down the driveway toward the house. There was a lot of love from everyone, a lot of tears, but they were all really proud. Coach Horton said a few words that were really appreciated. It was sad, but really positive. In the end, the Titans are still one of the top eight baseball teams in the nation!”
If history is any indication, the Titans will not be gone from Rosenblatt Row for too long. We’ll be back!
