Luther Hughes
Instructor in Music

Luther Hughes teaches electric bass and double bass at Cal State Fullerton while maintaining an active role in the recording industry. Called “the Leonard Bernstein of jazz" by Ken Borgers, former KLON host, he has performed with numerous big-named jazz artists ranging from Quincy Jones and Carmen MacRae to Lionel Hampton, Barney Kessell and Pat Metheny. His popular Cannonball-Coltrane Project has been hailed by jazz greats including James Moody as “Dazzling brilliant!” Hughes’ session work for television and movies is extensive, and has included The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Rich Little Show and numerous Dick Clark productions. His recordings can be heard on labels including Concord Records, Primrose Lane Music and CMG Records.
