Admission Requirements for the Special Education Specialist Credential Program

The individual applying for the Education Specialist Credential Program may choose between a multiple subject route and single subject route.

  • Course Requirements:

    SPED 371, 322, and 425

    Completion of General Education and no more than 6 units remaining in the major. (Note: One does not need to have graduated to enter the credential program. We recommend the student complete the entire major prior to entering the program.)

  • GPA > 2.75
  • Subject Matter Competency

  • Calif. Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)

  • Experience working with children.
  • Completed application to the credential program including faculty recommendations, autobiography, TB clearance and background check.
  • Application Sequence:

    Take prerequisites summer/fall term ---> Apply by February 28th ---> Enter Credential Program in the fall

    Take spring/summer term ---> Apply by September 30th ---> Enter Credential Program in the spring
