Admission Requirements for the Special Education Specialist Credential Program

The individual applying for the Special Education Specialist Credential Program may choose between a multiple subject route and single subject route. Each route is outlined below:

  • Course Requirements:

    Multiple Subject Route - SPED 371; CAS 312, 325 A & B or equivalent; & EDEL 315 A & B

    Single Subject Route - SPED 371; EDSC 310; & EDSC 320

  • Completion of General Education and no more than 6 units remaining in the major. (Notice: One does not need to have graduated to enter the credential program. We recommend the student complete the entire major prior to entering the program.)
  • GPA > 2.75
  • Subject Matter Competency:

    Multiple Subject Route:CSET

    Single Subject Route: SSMPP or Equivalent Exam

  • Calif. Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
    [click here for CBEST Information]
  • Experience working with children.
  • Completed application to the credential program including faculty recommendations, autobiography, TB clearance and background check.
  • Application Sequence:

    Take EDEL 315A&B in fall term ---> Apply by February 28th ---> Enter Credential Program in the fall

    Take EDEL 315A&B in spring or summer term ---> Apply by September 30th ---> Enter Credential Program in the spring
