Human Development Content Specifications
Domain 1: Cognitive Development from Birth through Adolescence
This domain covers basic concepts of cognitive and moral development,
stages of cognitive and language development in the development
of individuals including persons with special needs.
Domain 2: Social and Physical Development from Birth through
Adolescence
This domain covers social development including development of personality
and temperament, social development of children and young adolescents,
including persons with special needs. The domain also covers physical
development including the identification of individual differences
in physical development.
Domain 3: Influences on development from Birth through Adolescence.
This domain covers the potential impacts on the development of children
and young adolescents from genetic or organic causes, sociocultural
factors, socioeconomic factors and sex and gender. The domain also
includes the impact of sources of abuse and neglect on development.
The following courses are recommended to cover these content specifications:
- CAS 312: Human Growth and Development
or
CAS 315: Child Development
or
PSYC 361: Developmental Psychology
(for all majors except CHAD)
- For CHAD majors:
CAS 325A: Conception Through Age 8
and
325B: Age 9 Through Adolescence
- almost all other courses required for the major
