High School Student Information

A student who knows while still in high school that she/he wants to teach elementary school is in a unique position to streamline her/his education by selecting the most efficient set of classes for the degree while simultaneously preparing in the subject matter knowledge required for the elementary classroom.

Cal State Fullerton has an excellent program for all incoming freshmen who are planning careers in K-12 classrooms should know about:

  • Fullerton Future Teachers. Offered through our Freshman Programs Office, this unique learning community introduces freshmen to the teaching profession while at the same time providing opportunities for them to meet other students interested in the same career paths. Major Options
Future elementary teachers can choose from a variety of majors that will prepare them for teaching in elementary classrooms. Many majors, especially when paired with the appropriate choices for GE classes, can provide excellent preparation for the future elementary teacher. Click here to read more about suggested majors.

GE Recommendations for All Future Elementary Teachers
No matter what major a future elementary teacher chooses, his/her choices for the General Education Program should support the development of subject matter knowledge in the subjects relevant to the elementary classroom.
