Subject Matter Preparation Programs

Subject matter preparation programs (SMPP) require students to take classes that cover the broad range of material found in the California Student Academic Content Standards. While most subject matter preparation programs can be completed within the context of the major, students must choose major electives carefully to simultaneously complete the requirements for the major and the SMPP. For many programs, classes are required in addition to the requirements for the major.

Cal State Fullerton offers subject matter preparation programs in the following single subject areas:

Chemistry

Geoscience

Spanish

Mathematics

 

Music: Instrumental Track

Music: Choral Track

Music: General Track

Physics

Physical Education
(if completing the program before Fall 2008)

Physical Education
(if completing the program beginning Fall 2008)

Social Science
(if completing the program prior to 07/2009)

Social Science

(if completing the program after 07/2009)

Cal State Fullerton offers a single subject credential program for the Business credential but does not offer a subject matter preparation program for this subject. Students planning to enter the credential program in business must take the CSET subject matter exam.
