University Ceremony

The University Ceremony is the first of two Commencement ceremonies.

The University Ceremony at 8 a.m. features addresses from a distinguished keynote speaker, CSUF President Dr. Mildred García and other dignitaries. The College/Program Ceremonies begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. and students are called up individually to receive certificates and shake hands with the department chair.

University Ceremony

Time: 8 a.m.
Location: Lawn north of the Titan Gymnasium
Format: Addresses from a distinguished keynote speaker, CSUF President Dr. Mildred García and other dignitaries. This ceremony will begin with a formal processional of all graduates and end with a recessional on the lawn north of the Gym.
Tickets: No tickets required for the University Ceremony.


Decorum

Commencement, by its very nature, is a festive occasion. The ceremony is also marked by dignity and seriousness where the conferring of degrees signifies long, hard work on the part of everyone involved: students, faculty, administrators and families. Students and guests are expected to maintain a measure of decorum consistent with the occasion.

  • Students must wear appropriate academic regalia (See Supplies)
  • Items that detract from the ceremonies are prohibited. (Bull horns, large signs, etc.)
  • All electronic devices should be turned off during the ceremonies.
  • Students and guests must remain seated until the ceremony concludes.

Commencement Schedule of Events

7 a.m. Students arrive on campus and proceed to Track located north of the gym to line up for Processional and receive instructions.
8 a.m. University Ceremony
9:15 - 9:30 a.m. (Immediately following University Commencement) Proceed to site for College/Department Ceremonies
9:30 - 11 a.m. College/Department Ceremonies
