State of the City Fullerton |
For the fourth time Cal State Fullerton served as the venue
for the annual State of the City. Judith Anderson, executive
vice president welcome more than 450 attendees to the event.
Cal State Fullerton alumnus Ronald R. Levesque, executive
vice president and chief operating officer for Thales-Raytheon
Systems Company, provided the more than 450 attendees with
the keynote address. Mayor Shawn Nelson gave a city update
of Fullerton’s budget and future development plans.
Our own Owen Holmes, associate vice president for public affairs
and government relations, served as the event’s master
of ceremonies. |

Homeland Security Talk |
Student
questions ranged from container security at the Port of Los
Angeles to real or perceived threats from North Korea. During
late February, Richard Davis, director of academe, policy &
research Homeland Security Advisory Council, Office of Homeland
Security, addressed many questions and provided an overview
on the operations of the office of Homeland Security in associate
professor Max Dery’s criminal justice course, “Search,
Seizure and Interrogation.” |

Public Relations Society of America: Ethnic Diversity Conference |
| Cal State Fullerton was a silver sponsor at Public
Relations Society of America's, Orange County Chapter's first
ever event focusing on reaching out to diverse audiences in
print, radio, television audiences and the community. |

Cal
State Fullerton was a table sponsor at the city’s State
of the City event. The university showcased the newly formed
College of Education, the El Toro Campus and the Performing
Arts Center. |

Community/Legislative Briefing |
Almost
50 community and campus leaders attended the breakfast briefing,
which focused on the Centers of Demographic Research, Entertainment
and Tourism, Internships and Service-Learning and the Social
Science Research Center. Additionally, audience members were
briefed on the new Nonprofit Connections website. This website
helps off-campus web users locate research sources, statistics,
volunteer opportunities, internships, jobs, workshops, seminars

OC Reads: Funny in Farsi |
Cal
State Fullerton hosted its second Orange County Reads Event
on Tuesday, March 23. More than 90 persons attended "Family,
Food and Culture" with Firoozeh Dumas, author of "Funny
in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian In America" in
the Titan Theatre. Following the talk and book-signing about
50 campus and community members enjoyed a Persian-style luncheon
at Darya Restaurant in Orange. The luncheon was a benefit for
Persian Studies at Cal State Fullerton. |

Fullerton: 100 Years of Community Pride |
Cal
State Fullerton joined the city of Fullerton in celebrating
various activities on-campus and in the community throughout
the Centennial year. The university hosted a Centennial baseball
game and recognized the city of Fullerton at the university's
annual concert under the stars. |

State of the City Luncheon |
The
annual Fullerton State of the City Luncheon kicked off the Fullerton
Centennial at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in Cal State Fullerton's
Titan Student Union. The event's master of ceremonies was President
Milton A. Gordon, a keynote address by Mayor Mike Clesceri and
John P. Wareham, president, chairman and chief executive officer
Beckman Coulter will provide the industry perspective. This
event was in partnership with the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce. |

Town Hall |
Nearly
800 people gathered for a dialogue on Same-Sex Marriage focusing
on the sociological, legal/civic and religious perspectives
