Workshops

The University Leadership Conference (ULC) offers a variety of leadership skill-building workshops that are designed to be interactive, informative, and fun. Participants will leave workshops with improved personal knowledge and skills.

Featured workshops include:
Gen X, Y, & Baby Boomers:  Can't We All Just Get Along?
To be a strong leader you must have an appreciation of our multicultural world.  Our population is changing, and leaders, supervisors, and teammates now have to confront issues specific to age and generational differences.   Gen Y, Gen X  and baby boomers are now finding themselves on the same team,  and are experiencing a multitude of differences ranging from communication to motivation.  This workshop will introduce you to strategies that can help you improve your relationships with people who might be older or younger than you.   Increasing your sensitivity to age and generational issues will help ensure that you and others are treated with the respect deserved.
A Fresh Approach to Stress Reduction: The Tao of Humor
Maintaining balance in these hectic times is a challenge for all of us now and then, and stress-induced illness has become a recognized reality.  In this workshop, Tim Gard CSP, CPAE provides participants with a fresh approach to stress-reduction by sharing his proven effective techniques which encourage teamwork, personal accountability and good-humor characteristics.  As a leading authority on the topic, Tim imparts the wisdom from his extraordinary experiences and unusual encounters. He reminds audience members of the essential perspectives and various approaches to diffusing frustration, aggravation and other negative elements which, if left untended, create significant loss in productivity.  Learn to awaken understanding, and sharpen your ability to use humor's positive effects in your life.
Have A Vision, Make A Change
A strong leader must be visionary.  Most importantly, good leaders understand that leadership is about making positive change.   Learn how you can become a leader with vision and how you can influence change.   Participants will also learn how to earn support from others to make the vision a reality.
Ethical Decision Making
This workshop will discuss strategies to practicing values-driven leadership through identifying the difference between what people "want" to do and "should" do. Through case studies or scenarios, discussion and debate, techniques for handling very difficult and ambiguous situations will be explored. Models that can assist the decision-maker in choosing between "right and wrong" will be discussed.
Managing Conflict: Breaking Down Barriers
As a leader, it is inevitable that when it comes to relationships you will come across conflict.  Learning and practicing the right strategies will ensure that working relationships remain effective and that the communication channels stay active.  This workshop will help you maintain positive and healthy relationships while dealing with conflict.  Realizing how emotions and feelings can impact problem solving and decision-making can help you achieve your goals.  Practicing effective conflict management skills will help you improve your human relation skills and will allow you to break down barriers when conflicts arise.
Becoming a Credible Leader

Leadership is 15% knowledge and skills, while 85% is about relationships.   A leaders ability to show empathy, relate well with others, practice good personal and organizational management is critical to becoming a credible leader.  Credibility is also important in helping leaders motivate and influence others.   Learn how you can develop personal credibility by understanding how communication skills (verbal/non-verbal), motivation, and coping strategies are important to becoming a credible leader.
