Global Leadership Certificate Track
The Global Leadership Track is for students who are interested in learning the differences between international cultures and how they view and articulate leadership. This is an ideal track for students entering into international fields of study as well as students who are studying abroad or come from a international background themselves.
Students completing
the track will receive a certificate of completion and will be recognized
at the SLI Annual Recognition Ceremony.
OBJECTIVES:

To assist students in formulating Global Leadership skills to move from a American setting to a International Setting. |

To assist students in developing skills necessary to secure a job or internship involved in international relations |

To assist in the decision of studying abroad or working abroad |

REQUIREMENTS
The Global Leadership Certificate Track may be completed within 2 semesters. Section D may be completed in either Fall or Spring semester. Total number of workshops: 9
Section A: Program Core Workshops (complete all 3)
- Introduction to Leadership
- Leading and Managing a Diverse Group
- Ethical Decision-Making
Section B: Track Core Workshops (it is strongly recommended that all 4 be completed in this order)*
- What is Culture?
- Exploring ethnicity (elective from EMBRACE Track)
- Are You A Global Leader?
- Becoming A Global Communicator
Section C: Additional electives (complete any 2)*
- Culture and Gender Roles
- Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues
- Understanding “Isms”
- Dealing with Difficult People
- Public Speaking
Section D: Experiential Component * (follows similar guidelines of all SLI Certificate Tracks)
Each subsection 1 and 2 must be completed.
- Participate in a minimum of 5 hours (within one semester) in at least one of the following programs:
- Cross-Cultural Contact program (may require more than 5 hours)
- Volunteer International Peers program (may require more than 5 hours)
- International Education Week planning
- Study Abroad Alumni Group (i.e. participating in pre-departure orientation and re-entry workshop planning and discussions)
- Phi Beta Delta Student Board member
- Community volunteering activity with an international component
- International Coffee Break
- Cross-Cultural Conversation activities
- Study abroad classroom presentations
- Panel discussions organized by the Office of International Education & Exchange or other campus departments e.g. International Education Week, Phi Beta Delta, Women’s Center, Career Center, etc.
- Submit a 2 – 3 page reflective paper to document your experiences and activities from Section D 1).
