Career Leadership

The Career Leadership track is a collaboration between the Student Leadership Institute and the Career Planning and Placement Center.  This track provides training to help students develop skills that will contribute to their success in the professional  world.  Workshops focus on topics that will prepare students for graduation and their search for professional career placement.

Students completing the track will receive a certificate of completion and will be recognized at the SLI Annual Recognition Ceremony.

OBJECTIVES:

To assist students in formulating Career Leadership Plans to move from the academic setting to a career setting.
bullet
To assist students in developing skills necessary to secure a job through on campus recruiting, job fairs, and networking.
bullet
To assist in the decision of going to graduate or professional school.

BENEFITS

Help students gain confidence in their abilities and learn to communicate/market your abilities to others.

Acquire leadership skills and build your resume.

REQUIREMENTS

To earn a Career Leadership Certificate, students must complete Sections A, B, C, and D.

Section A: Program Core Workshops

Introduction to Leadership (1.5 hours)
Ethical Decision Making (1.5 hours)

Leading and Managing a Diverse Group (1.5 hours)

Section B: Track Core Workshops

Business Survival Basics (1.5 hours)
How To Write the Perfect Resume (1.5 hours)
Interview for a Real Job (1.5 hours)
Job Search and Networking Strategies (1 hours)
Learn the #1 Secret to Job Search Success (1.5 hours)
Marketing Your Leadership and Transferable Skills (1.5 hours)

Section C: Elective Workshops

Any two workshops from the pool of Elective Workshops.

Section D: Experiential Component

Participants are required to complete a minimum of 5 hours of applied leadership. This can be pretty much any activity that participants are involved outside the classroom or workshop setting. Five hours are required for each track the participant is involved in. Participants must submit this form for approval by the SLI Coordinating Committee before April 11, 2008 in order to receive a certificate at the 2008 SLI Recognition Banquet.
