Leadership Opportunities
The Student Leadership Institute is currently accepting applications for the SLI Coordinating Committee for the 2007-2008 school
year. This is a great opportunity to expand on and improve your leadership skills and network with students, faculty, and staff. You will also get to work on a great team of committed students, attend retreats, and build lasting relationships.
The SLI Coordinating Committee consists of three 10-hour/week paid positions and several 5-hour/week volunteer positions, all of which contribute greatly to the success of our program. The vacant position descriptions are located below.

Position: Alumni Coordinator (Volunteer)
Hiring Period: Academic Year
Hours: 5 hours per week, which includes: office work, 1 hour for SLICC meeting, and 30 minutes for advisor meeting
Advisor: Coordinator of Leadership Programs and SLI Director
Summary of Position:
- Attend Fall and Spring Retreats
- Meet with the Coordinator of Leadership Programs once in the summer for training purposes
- Collect information and maintain alumni database.
- Keep alumni informed about events, including recruiting alum as speakers, forwarding invitations or announcements to events.
- Assist with developing one SLI networking event that highlights the program's alumni.
- Coordinate alumni fundraising efforts.
- Assist with the marketing of SLI through on-campus presentations and staffing tables at resource fairs.
- Conduct large group and individual orientations.
- Develop and maintain Alumni Coordinator Position Binder.
Position: Presentation Coordinator (volunteer)
Hiring Period: Academic Year
Hours 5 hours total, which includes: office work, 1 hour for SLICC meeting, and 30 minutes for advisor meeting
Advisor: Coordinator of Leadership Programs and SLI Director
Summary of Position:
- Attend Fall and Spring Retreats
- Meet with the Coordinator of Leadership Programs once in the summer for training purposes
- Conduct 5 to 10 minute classroom presentations for SLI.
- Develop presentation calendar and schedule classroom presentations with instructors, student clubs and councils, or other on-campus departments throughout the semester.
- Develop a 5 to 10 minute PowerPoint presentation for SLI, including script.
- Schedule and train SLICC members to facilitate presentations.
- Create SLI interest card/sheet to be distributed and collected at presentations.
- Follow-up with individuals who have submitted an SLI interest card/sheet.
- Assist with the marketing of SLI through on-campus presentations and staffing tables at resource fairs.
- Conduct large group and individual orientations.
- Develop and maintain Presentation Coordinator Position Binder.
Position: Workshop Coordinator (volunteer)
Hiring Period: Academic Year
Hours: 5 hours per week, which includes: office work, 1 hour for SLICC meeting, and 30 minutes for advisor meeting per week
Advisor: Coordinator of Leadership Programs and SLI Director
Summary of Position:
- Attend Fall and Spring Retreats.
- Put together and workshop packets.
- Create workshop signs.
- Coordinate distribution of workshop packets to SITMS and/or presenters.
- Make sure that all workshop packets, including evaluations and attendance sheets, are returned and follow-up with SITMS or presenters who have not returned packets or attendance sheets.
- Keep inventory of supplies included in packets (i.e., workshop evaluations, nametags).
- Collect university information (i.e., flyers or brochures) of interests that can be distributed to participants at workshops.
- Assist with the marketing of SLI through on-campus presentations and staffing tables at resource fairs.
- Conduct large group and individual orientations.
- Develop and maintain the Workshop Coordinator Position Binder.
Position: Newsletter Coordinator/Historian (volunteer)
Hiring Period: Academic Year
Hours: 5 hours total, which includes: office work, 1 hour for SLICC meeting, and 30 minutes for advisor meetings per week.
Advisor: Coordinator of Leadership Programs and SLI Director
Summary of Position:
- Attend Fall and Spring Retreats.
- Create and design e-newsletter that emphasizes program news and updates, articles on leadership or highlights individuals or services on or off campus.
- Recruit writers (faculty, staff, community members or students).
- Distribute newsletters to campus community, SLI participants, alumni and presenters.
- Take pictures of SLI events, workshops, meetings, reception, retreats, and training.
- Develop SLI marketing displays for resource and recruitment fairs.
- Create album of SLI pictures, brochures, and other pertinent documents.
- Assist with the marketing of SLI through on-campus presentations and staffing tables at resource fairs.
- Conduct large group and individual orientations.
- Develop and maintain the Newsletter/Historian Coordinator Position Binder.
