Sli team

The Organizational Leadership Track developed out of conversations with more advanced student leaders and their advisors. The goal of this track is to provide students who already have substantial leadership experience, either on campus or in the community, with advanced skills for leading, motivating, and managing others. Students will also learn about their own leadership identity to reflect on how they have grown into their current positions or roles in order to better plan for their future goals.

Students completing the track will receive a certificate of completion and will be recognized at the SLI Annual Recognition Ceremony.

Objectives

  • To introduce students to specific leadership theories and philosophies
  • To help students think about how these theories and philosophies can be incorporated into their current leadership practices.
  • To provide students with important skills for serving in leadership positions within organizations.

  • Increase confidence and improve ability in delegating work and authority to others, especially when working with peers.
  • Develop the resiliency necessary for sustaining yourself through trying times as a leader.

Requirements

To earn Cerificate Student must complete sections A, B, C and
complete a 5 - hour Experimental Component .

Section A: Program Core Workshops - required of all SLI participants & can be completed in any order.

  • Introduction to Leadership
  • Ethical Decision Making
  • Leading and Managing a Diverse Group

Section B: Track Core Workshops - can be completed in any order.

  • The FISH! Philosophy (1.5 hours)
  • The Leadership Challenge (1.5 hours)
  • Leading through Adversity (1.5 hours)
  • The Seven C’s of Social Change (1.5 hours)
  • Using the Strengths of Your Team (1.5 hours)

Section C: Elective Workshops - any two workshops from our pool of elective workshops, or through other conferences, offices, etc.

Section D: Experiential Component

Participants are required to complete a minimum of 5 hours of applied leadership. This can be any activity that participants are involved outside the classroom or workshop setting that allows them to utilize the skills they have gained from there track. Five hours are required for each track the participant is involved in. Please see the Experiential Component Policy for more information.
