HOSPICES
Hospice care offers a wide variety of volunteer services to patients and their families. Volunteers provide respite to caregivers or family members who need a much deserved break away from the home. Volunteers are asked to be friendly visitors to hospice patients residing in nursing homes or retirement facilities. Spend time reading, doing bedside activities, playing peaceful music, and assisting with correspondence. You must be able to work with the ill, frail, and elderly, and must be able to deal with loss and grief in a professional manner. Empathy, compassion, and the gift of unconditional positive regard are the most important qualities a volunteer can offer.
