There are leadership opportunities on the CSUF campus for disabled students available. In fact, having strong community and campus involvement is a part of the requirements for Associated Students Fall 2000 Scholarships; there are four $1000 scholarships to be awarded and one $250 scholarship.  There is an additional 35 scholarships, which will cover the cost of all textbooks for the spring semester to be awarded.  All of the scholarships have their applications due by 5 p.m. on October 27th. Minimum cumulative CSUF GPA range for the scholarships is from 2.5 to 3.0.  You have to be a full-time graduate or undergraduate to be eligible (no first semester undergrad students are eligible). For all except one scholarship, financial need will be considered. Virtually all of the scholarships require at least some campus and/or community involvement. For more information visit the Associated Students web site: http://asi.fullerton.edu

Mary Grace Cachuela, Associated Students President, at California State University, Fullerton, said: “85 percent to 90 percent of the committee positions are filled, but there are still openings.”  Of these positions still open, they will be filled on an “ongoing basis.”  This January applications will be accepted for the new committees, which will be forming after the first of the year.  So get your applications in early January and get on the committee of your choice.

The Finance or the Titan Spirit Committee are just a couple of the numerous boards here at CSUF.; you will have to check in order to find out which committees are still open at this time. If you would like more information about serving, call (714) 278-3295; or, pamphlets are available at Disabled Student Services (UH 101) or Titan Student Union 207.

There are more than 200 clubs and organizations on campus—you can even start your own club if you want!  Enlarging your circle of friends can be an enriching experience.  For more information phone (714) 278-3211.  Ed Mohr, Program Coordinator – Workability IV, stated that “It depends on what area you are in.”  For example, it would look better for an accounting major to be on the finance board.

Another opportunity is the Student Leadership Institute (SLI), which can help you gain leadership skills and earn certificates; SLI has had activities such as “Welcoming BBQ,” “SLI at the lanes” and “SLI at the movies.”  According to Student Leadership Institute literature, SLI is open and FREE of charge to all CSUF students.  To enroll, pick up an application from the Dean of Students Office TSU Room 235, or check their website at www.fullerton.edu/deanofstudents.  Once accepted, you will receive the dates for their orientation session.   For more information call (714) 278-5999.

There is so much going on here at CSUF, the best thing you can do is contact the Dean of Students office and let them know what you need or have in mind.  The phone number for the Dean of Students is (714) 278-3211, and their office is Titan Student Union, room 235.  You’ll learn to be a leader and gain valuable experience for your future career.
