Letter from the Director of Disabled Student Services
July 12, 2000
Dear Student
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Cal State Fullerton and our program.
I believe you made this wise decision because our institution offers outstanding academic
programs to meet your personal, academic and career goals and provides the enriching environment
to support your success. We have chosen to include in this resource guide letters from the
President of the university and the Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs
addressed to the faculty as a demonstration of the university's commitment to providing
service to students with a disability.
With this Resource Guide, we have attempted to do something a little
different from the typical student handbook. Firstly, the format is designed to be amendable.
As laws, policies, procedures, and forms change or other new useful information is developed
we can supply you with inserts for your binder. Secondly, the format was conceived as a
central place for you to file important information and correspondence from Cal State Fullerton.
For example, you might want to file in this binder all grade reports, official correspondence
from the university, fee receipts, copies of petitions you have submitted, financial aid
or Department of Rehabilitation documents, or personal copies of documentation verifying
your disability. Thirdly, we wanted to provide you with information and guidance specific
to you as a student with a disability about the services available to you and the responsibilities
required of you.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we want to provide you with the
information, support and encouragement needed to be a successful student who can look back
on your academic experience with pride and satisfaction. University is not meant for everyone.
That you have been admitted speaks well of you. I encourage you to put forth the hard work
needed to succeed and to use the support that my staff and I are here to provide.
Cordially,
Paul K. Miller
