International Graduate

Applying to the graduate degree program (Master of Science) in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department is a simple 2-step process.

Step 1. Apply online at www.csumentor.edu and pay the application fee of $55 with credit card.
Step 2. Send the following documents to

ECS Admissions
College of Engineering and Computer Science
California State University, Fullerton
P.O. Box 6870
Fullerton, CA 92834-6870

(a) An official transcript and degree certificate from each university or college you have attended after high school. A copy of your Bachelors degree is also required to evaluate your application.
(b) A copy of TOEFL (or) IELTS score report (if your native language is not English).
(c) An International Student Financial Statement and Affidavit accompanied by a bank statement from your sponsor showing a required minimum amount.

Notes

  • You need to submit the transcripts or mark sheets of all eight semesters (i.e., 4 years of Bachelors degree) along with your degree certificate.

  • The minimum TOEFL score required is 79 Internet Based TOEFL (IBT) or 550 Paper Based TOEFL (PBT). You need to send the official TOEFL score directly from ETS to the university. The four digit institution code is 4589.

  • We also accept IELTS score, in which case the minimum score is 6.5

  • The department does not need GRE score for admission. We feel that the GRE exam does not reflect the potential of the student. Hence our evaluation is based on your transcripts.

  • Unfortunately the department is not able to offer Research or Teaching Assistantships. Students are allowed to work 20 hrs/week on the campus. Potential students can correspond with the faculty to check if they have any funding opportunities.

  • International students need to pay Non-Resident Tuition in addition to fees. The current fee and Non-Resident Tuition amounts are available at the Student Financial Services website. On this website, select "Fee Information" on the left and then "Registration Fees" or "Non-Resident Tuition."

  • We offer admission to applicants who have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above.

  • We encourage students from non-civil engineering backgrounds to apply to our graduate program. Over the last few years, we have admitted many students who hold Bachelors degrees in Business, Chemistry, Computer Science and other non-engineering majors. These students are required to complete a few deficiency courses listed in the graduate program brochure (sometimes even more).

  • To inquire about the application status, email ECS Admissions at ecsgrad@fullerton.edu. The phone number is (657) 278 7786. In your email, include distinctly your last name, first name, CWID (campus wide ID number) and the program to which you applied.

  • Our graduate program is a minimum 30 unit program (typically 10 courses) and many classes meet once a week from 7 PM-9:45PM. In addition to completing the 10 courses, the student has to pass the English writing proficiency exam which is conducted by the university. In some cases a project or a thesis work can be done (with departmental approval) instead of specific course work.

  • Detailed information about the admissions process for international graduate students is available at http://www.fullerton.edu/ecs/future/admissions/international.asp.

  • Students must not enroll in courses without proper advisement from the CEE department.
