The California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for anticipated tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department starting August 2009 or earlier. Sub disciplines of primary interest include Construction Engineering and Structural Engineering. CSUF is an urban university located in Orange County, surrounded by high technology industry and a diverse community. Position
Faculty member will:
regularly teach all levels of civil engineering courses for majors and non-majors;
establish and provide leadership for laboratories;
advise students;
serve on academic committees; and
contribute to Department and University governance.
Positive tenure and promotion decisions require excellent teaching, research, refereed publishing, and participation in the university and the profession.
Qualifications
An earned undergraduate degree in the area of civil engineering with appropriate emphasis is necessary.
An earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering is required by the time the candidate commences work.
Good analytical skills, field experience and professional license are highly desirable. The person is expected to acquire the PE license within five years of the hire if he or she does not have it already.
All candidates must be able to support undergraduate teaching needs in areas such as structural, geotechnical, hydraulics, environmental, construction, surveying and land development, transportation and architectural engineering.
Must have background to teach laboratory and graduate courses as well as engage in research in their own subspecialty.
Faculty members are expected to be team players willing to contribute to the mission of the Civil and Environmental Department, College of Engineering and Computer Science and the University.
Ability to work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students and faculty.
Must have proven record of doing research in his/her own field and be able to carry out future research in the same area.

Rank & Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary is competitive consistent with starting levels at the assistant professor rank. Faculty may also apply for intramural grants to do research during those months.
