DEMONSTRATION OF ENERGY EFFICIENT DEVELOPMENT (DEED) STUDENT GRANTS/ INTERNSHIPS Student Research Grants and Internships DEED student research grants/internships support students studying in energy-related disciplines, increase awareness of career opportunities in public power, and provide assistance to DEED member utility sponsors. Each year up to ten, $4,000 student research grants and internships are awarded to students conducting research on an energy-related project. Students must be sponsored by a DEED member utility and are required to write an abstract and final report at the completion of the project. . Student Eligibility Requirements: Only students studying in energy-related disciplines from accredited colleges or universities in the U.S. or Canada are eligible for student research grants/internships. Applicants will not be discriminated against on the basis of sex, race, religion, national origin, or citizenship. Students must obtain a DEED member sponsor for their student research grant/internship. Find a DEED member utility, and email DEED to request the specific contact information for the utility you wish to approach regarding sponsorship. Applications: The application is available in PDF [36KB] and in MS Word [751KB] format. Applications must be completed in full as per the instructions, and submitted with all required signatures and an academic transcript, by the deadline. A copy of the application must also be sent to the DEED regional board director. Find the regional board director for your state.Deadlines: February 15 and October 1 each year. Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program (NUPOC) About: If you are interested in becoming a naval nuclear engineering officer when you graduate, but don’t want to participate in any ROTC while in college, you can apply for the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate Program. NUPOC offers up to $100,000 to complete your degree. The money is sent directly to you to spend as you see fit. Stokes Educational Scholarship Program Application Amount: Tuition at the college of your choice, reimbursement for books and certain fees, housing and travel entitlements during summer employment (if the distance between the NSA and school exceeds 75 miles), a year-round salary, and employment opportunity Department: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering Open to: High school seniors and college sophomores To apply for the Stokes Educational Scholarship Program, applicants must first: 1. Criteria: Qualifications for High School Students: Must be a U.S. citizen, high school senior at the time of application, minimum SAT/College Board score of 1100, or ACT score of 25, GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale), and demonstrates leadership abilities. Qualifications for College Sophomore: Must be a U.S. citizen, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for Freshman year, and have six credits in one of our core languages.
