Technology Breakfast: "Digital Game Technologies and Engineering Fun" by Dr. Michael Shafae - November 13, 2008
Often derided as chewing gum for the mind, video games, as software systems, pose interesting engineering challenges and are used as an excellent teaching vehicle for a breadth of computer science topics. Additionally, the undeniable popularity and commercial success of video game softwares has influenced the robust gains in desktop graphics processing performance. In this talk, video games will be presented as an entry point to computer science education as well as highlighting recent trends in using graphics hardware to accomplish general purpose computation.
