Yesenia Lopez

Yesenia graduated from San Gabriel Mission High School in San Gabriel, California. In her senior year of high school, she applied to and was accepted by Cal State Northridge, but personal circumstances did not allow her to attend as planned. Instead, Yesenia attended Rio Hondo Community College part-time for a total of 8 years where she accumulated more than 70 units. Unfortunately, Yesenia was unable to receive credit for all of units she earned at Rio Hondo.

While she was at Rio Hondo, Yesenia sought out support from her community college counselor and she maintained close ties with a Cal State Fullerton University Outreach representative. Because the representative guided her through the transfer process, she felt a sense of connection with the campus even before she began classes. She ultimately chose to come to Cal State Fullerton because of her major, the fact that she would be required to complete internships, and because she loved the Cal State Fullerton community. After she transferred here, she found that everything on campus that she needed was accessible to her and she believes that staff members were attentive to her needs.

Yesenia recommends that all transfer students initiate contact with a Cal State Fullerton counselor, that they attend all designated advising appointments, and that they always bring a copy of their unofficial transcripts with them to their advising appointments. She also encourages potential transfer students to ask a lot of questions.

Yesenia graduated from Cal State Fullerton in May 2004. She is in the process of completing a Master’s degree in Education from the University of La Verne.
