Introduction
Wages, hours of employment, and other terms and conditions of employment
for faculty are covered in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Refer to that document for more detailed information. This section
covers some of the areas most frequently asked about.

Hours
of Work
The CSU and CFA recognize that faculty have the obligation to be
available to students, to assume normal committee assignments, and
other professional service related to the mission of the campus.
Faculty are expected to devote the amount of time to formal instruction
that the course requires. In the event that a faculty member is
unable to meet a class, the department chair must be notified, normally
before the class meeting, and in any case, as soon as possible.
Consult with your department chair regarding other classroom and
instruction policies and procedures.

Additional
Employment
The term "additional employment" refers to any employment compensated
by the CSU, funded by the general fund or non-general funds including
CSU auxiliaries and University Extended Education, that is in addition
to the primary or normal employment of a faculty unit employee.
Under certain conditions, faculty may add to their full-time employment
with the CSU, not to exceed a 25% overage. Consult the CBA regarding
limitations on additional employment within the CSU and regarding
outside employment.

Use
of State Property
CSU policy provides that state property and employee time may not
be used for the monetary benefit of the employee. Professional services
performed in addition to a full teaching load must not be in conflict
with the duties of an employee or officer under the jurisdiction
of the CSU. If you have a question regarding whether a particular
action constitutes a conflict of interest, contact Faculty Affairs
and Records. Refer
to the "Faculty Development" section of this Handbook for information
on conflict of interest relating to funded projects.

Participation
in Commencement
The
academic year concludes with commencement. By attending commencement,
faculty show students and their guests that faculty support and
respect this event. The days on which commencement exercises are
held are included as academic workdays. |
