National SMART Grant (National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant)

The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant is a federally funded grant program available to undergraduate students in their third and fourth years of study. CSUF Award Maximum: $4000 per year.

To qualify, you must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be enrolled full-time (12 units)
  • Be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
  • Maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0
  • Be making satisfactory academic progress
  • Be majoring in physical, life or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, or engineering or in a foreign language determined critical to national security
  • Be enrolled in at least one course that meets the specific requirements of your major

To receive a SMART grant for your third year of study, you must have earned at least 60 semester units for junior status; to receive a SMART grant for your fourth year of study, you must have earned at least 90 semester units for senior status

Disbursements are made during the sixth week of classes after we have verified that you are enrolled full-time and meet all other eligibility requirements shown above.
