These scholarships have been established to assist students in programs offered by the College of Education. Information about additional scholarship opportunities may be obtained from the Assistant Dean in EC-190.

Note: The names of scholarship recipients will be posted on the College of Education web site. Recipients will be notified by letter in September. Those who have not been selected as scholarship recipients will not be notified.

 

Alumni Association Scholarship for the College of Education

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by the Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association to recognize students who have demonstrated good to excellent academic performance in leadership, and service through involvement in extracurricular activities.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing students in the College of Education who are pursuing either a teaching credential or a graduate degree.

Criteria: Academic achievement • Good academic standing • Leadership • Extracurricular activities • Service to College of Education or campus

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Write a statement that describes your leadership and service activities to your department or the campus; and 3) Submit all application materials to
EC-190.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

Brenneman Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by David Reid in honor of Jean Carolyn Brenneman in recognition of her passion to teach beginning readers. The scholarship will be awarded to applicants who teach in the early grades, who are pursuing an early elementary education emphasis in the reading program, and who show academic and professional promise.

Open to: This scholarship is open to both graduate-level and specialist credential students in the Reading Department.

Criteria: Academic achievement • Quality of statement

Application procedure: 1) Complete the departmental application available in the Reading Department office; 2) Write a two-page statement that describes your career goals and explains why you are applying for this scholarship; and 3) Submit application materials to EC-531.

Application deadline: October 30

 

Marilyn C. Brewer Scholarship

Amount: $1,500

Established by: This scholarship is funded by Marilyn C. Brewer to recognize academic potential and to support a re-entry student with potential to become a high-quality teacher.

Open to: This scholarship is open to re-entry students who have applied to or are enrolled in the Multiple Subject Credential Program.

Criteria: 3.2 GPA • Academic potential • Professional aptitude for teaching • Financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide one letter of recommendation from CSUF faculty member; 3) Write a one-page statement that includes information about: a) your re-entry status, b) your financial need, c) why you want to become an elementary teacher, d) your work experiences, and e) any special circumstances that you would like considered; 4) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; and 5) Submit application materials to EC-190.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

The California Retired Teachers Association Scholarship honoring Founder, Laura E. Settle

Amount: $2,000

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the California Retired Teachers Association in honor of Laura E. Settle. This scholarship is awarded each year on the basis of good academic standing, a record of exemplary character and citizenship, and demonstrated financial need.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing students who are in the Teaching Credential Program.

Criteria: Scholastic achievement • Financial need • Character

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Write a one-page statement that describes how you have demonstrated good character and citizenship (one page maximum); 3) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; 4) Provide one letter of recommendation from a CSUF faculty member; and 5) Submit application materials to EC 190.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

College of Education Book Scholarship

Amount: Four $500 awards (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship is funded by generous donors to help College of Education students pay for their books.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing College of Education students who are pursuing a teaching credential, certificate, Master’s or Ed.D degree.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Enrollment in College of Education

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, completing the front side only; 2) Write a one hundred word (or less) statement regarding your teaching goals and need for money for books; and 3) Submit the application materials Nancee Wright, EC-190.

Application Deadline: March 2

 

Mildred Ransdorf Donoghue Master’s in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction

Amount: Two $500 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established by Mildred Ransdorf Donoghue to assist students in meeting their educational expenses.

Open to: This scholarship is open to full-time students pursuing a Master’s in Education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction and are completing their final semester of the program.

Criteria: Re-entry student • Full time enrollment

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide two letters of reference from CSUF faculty members in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education; 3) Write a one-page statement that describes your re-entry status; and 4) Submit application materials to EC-190.

Application Deadline: December 10 for Fall awards; May 1 for Spring awards

 

Mildred Ransdorf Donoghue—Multiple Subject Credential

Amount: $1,000 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established by Mildred Ransdorf Donoghue to assist students in meeting their educational expenses.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing Multiple Subject Credential students with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited American college or university who are entering their final semester of the program.

Criteria: Re-entry student • Enrolled in a minimum of 15 units • Starting 2nd career

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide two letters of reference from CSUF faculty members in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education; 3) Write a one-page statement that describes your re-entry status; and 4) Submit application materials to EC-190.

Application Deadline: December 10 for Fall awards; May 1 for Spring awards

 

Lorenz and Ruth Graham Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $500

Established by: This scholarship was established in memory of Lorenz and Ruth Graham by their daughter, Dr. Ruth Graham Siegrist, Associate Professor Emeritus, Reading Department, CSUF. Dr. Lorenz Graham’s award winning works helped lay the foundation for contemporary African American children’s literature. The award will include a set of Lorenz Graham’s novels.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing College of Education students who are pursuing a teaching credential, certificate, Master’s or Ed.D degree.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Enrollment in College of Education • Demonstrated financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, completing the front side only; 2) Obtain one CSUF faculty recommendation regarding your professional aptitude for the field of Education; 3) Write a one hundred word essay explaining how you would integrate reading and literature into your classroom activities; 4) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; and 5) Submit application materials to Nancee Wright, EC 190.

Application Deadline: March 2

 

Lewis and Deborah Hancock Scholarship in Reading Education

Amount: $100 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established to recognize and honor graduate students who are single parents with financial need who have demonstrated good to excellent academic performance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduate-level and specialist credential students in the Reading Department who are pursuing a Master’s Degree.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Single parent/Head of household • Financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the departmental application available in EC-531; 2) Write a two-page statement that explains your career goals and why you are applying for this scholarship, including evidence of academic and professional potential and financial need; and 3) Submit completed application with your typed statement to EC-531.

Application Deadline: October 30

 

Miriam K. Herman Scholarship

Amount: $500 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established in the name of Miriam K. Herman to assist students who are completing the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program.

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduating students from the Multiple Subject Credential Program who are completing their final semester.

Criteria: Final semester of enrollment • Multiple Subject Credential Program

Application Procedures: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide a sealed letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education; 3) Write a one-page statement that describes why you want to become an elementary teacher; and 4) Submit completed application materials to EC-190.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

Emma Baumann Holmes – Master’s Program in Curriculum and Instruction

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by Dr. Emma Baumann Holmes, professor emeritus of the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education.

Open to: This scholarship is open to students pursuing a master’s degree with a concentration in curriculum and instruction.

Criteria: 3.2 GPA • Commitment to high quality teaching • Financial need considered

Application procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide a sealed letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education that addresses either your potential for teaching or your performance as an elementary teacher; 3) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; and 4) Submit application materials to EC 190.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

Emma Baumann Holmes – Multiple Subject Credential Program

Amount: $1,000

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by Dr. Emma Baumann Holmes, professor emeritus of the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education.

Open to: This scholarship is open to students admitted to or enrolled in the multiple subject credential program.

Criteria: 3.2 GPA • Commitment to high quality teaching • Financial need considered

Application procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide a sealed letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education that addresses either your potential for teaching or your performance as an elementary teacher; 3) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; and
4) Submit application materials to EC 190.

Honor an Educator Scholarship

Amount: Two $1,000 awards (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established by the College of Education to assist students with meeting educational expenses.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing College of Education students who are pursuing a teaching credential, certificate, Master’s or Ed.D degree.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Enrollment in College of Education • Demonstrated financial need

Application procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, completing the front side only; 2) Obtain one CSUF faculty recommendation regarding your professional aptitude for the field of Education; 3) Write a one hundred word essay explaining your goal to become an educator; 4) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; and 5) Submit application materials to Nancee Wright, EC 190.

Application Deadline: March 2

 

Dorothy C. Klausner Scholarship

Amount: $500 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established by Deborah Hancock in honor of Dorothy C. Klausner to recognize and honor graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduate Reading Education major students who are pursuing a Master’s Degree.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the departmental application available in EC-531; 2) Write a 2-page statement that explains your career goals and why you are applying for this scholarship, including evidence of academic and professional potential and financial need; and 3) submit completed application with your typed statement to EC-531.

Application Deadline: October 30

 

The Ernest G. Lake Endowed Scholarship

Amount: $200 (subject to funding)

Established by: This scholarship is named for Dr. Ernest G. Lake, who was a distinguished member of the faculty in the Educational Administration Department at CSUF. He was the first Division Chair for “Special Programs in Education,” which included graduate programs of Educational Administration, Special Education, Counseling and Reading.

Open To: This scholarship is open to students majoring in Educational Leadership in the Administrative Credential program.

Criteria: Good academic standing • Financial need • Educational goals

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Write a statement that describes your educational goals and financial need and describe how the scholarship will help you attain your goals; 3) Attach a resume; and, 4) Submit application materials to the Department of Educational Leadership, EC-207, (714) 278-7673.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

Reading Educators Guild (REG) Scholarship

Amount: $300

Established by: This scholarship was established by the alumni of the Reading Department to recognize and honor students for outstanding academic performance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing College of Education students pursuing a master’s or Reading specialist credential.

Criteria: 3.0 GPA • Essay

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, completing the front side only; 2) Write an essay stating how you have addressed your goal of becoming a reading professional and your future goals; and 3) Submit application to Dr. Rosario Ordonez-Jasis, EC-190.

Application Deadline: October 30

 

Fannie Shaftel Scholarship

Amount: $500 (dependent upon funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established by Shirley Hill, professor emeritus of the Department of Elementary and Bilingual Education in honor of Fannie Shaftel.

Open to: This scholarship is open to students who are accepted or enrolled in the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program.

Criteria: Financial need • Demonstrated professional aptitude for teaching

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Write a paragraph or two describing the four most important characteristics of an elementary teacher; 3) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA application (FAFSA) (or have one on-file) for establishing financial need; 4) Provide one letter of recommendation from a CSUF faculty member; and 5) Submit application materials to EC-190.

Application Deadline: March 10

 

The Bernhard J. and Vivian W. Strand Scholarship

Amount: Four $500 scholarships

Established by: This scholarship was named for Bernhard and Vivian Strand who made life-long commitments to the public education system as both teachers and principals.

Open to: This scholarship is open to students who have been admitted to the Multiple Subject Credential program.

Criteria: Financial need • Academic potential • Professional aptitude for teaching

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Prepare a one-page personal statement about your teaching goals; 3) Obtain two letters of recommendation from CSUF faculty; 4) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application (or have one on file) for establishing financial need, and write a statement of financial need in item #6 of the SA application; and 5) Submit application materials to EC-190.
