A
security freeze on your credit file means that your information
will not be released to potential creditors, insurance companies,
or employers. To place a freeze on your account you will have to
contact all three of the credit bureaus. The fee is typically $10
to place a freeze which will remain in effect until you end it;
there is no charge to end the freeze. You may temporarily lift the
freeze if you know that a creditor or employer will be checking
your credit history for a fee of $10-$12. For more information on
