Because it is more convenient for students to travel by private vehicles in Orange County than to use public transportation, many Cal State Fullerton international students have their own cars. The price of a used car ranges from approximately $3,000-$10,000 in Orange County, but it is highly recommended that students buy reliable vehicles. Also, car insurance prices for new drivers in the United States can be very high. One-way insurance is estimated to range from $550-$700 and two-way insurance from $800-$1600. For more information about insurance for new drivers in California, you can visit http://www.aaa-calif.com/ or other insurance companies' web sites.

In order to get a driver's license in the United States, students have to take both a written and a driving test. For more information about driver's licenses, you can visit the California Department of Motor Vehicles web site: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl.htm.

* NOTE: An international student does not need a Social Security Number in order to get a California driver's license. A Social Security Number is a unique nine-digit number assigned to an individual by the Federal Social Security Administration. It is considered valuable personal information and identification.
