She was elected to the California State Assembly in 1994 and served until termed limited out in 2000. She represented the 70th Assembly District and had 34 bills signed into law by both Democrat and Republican governors. In October, 2006, Marilyn was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Little Hoover Commission for a four-year term. She also currently serves as Chair of the Advisory Board to the Aids Service Foundation in Orange County. Prior to her appointment, Marilyn served as a commissioner on the Orange County Transportation Authority. In addition, she is founding chair of the Orange County Coalition of Comprehensive Mental Health Services and Women in Leadership. For many years, Marilyn was moderator and executive producer of a political talk show on cable television.
After having four sons, Marilyn co-founded the C. Brewer Company and was active in the manufacturing company until 1983. The company provides plastic custom molding and assembly services and mission-critical molds to customers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia and Asia.
Ms. Brewer is a long-time donor to the Marilyn C. Brewer Scholarship in the College of Education at Cal State Fullerton, which recognizes academic potential and supports re-entry students with the potential of becoming high-quality teachers.
